There's a lot to like in this book of stylish and easy crochet projects for the home. Molla Mills is well known in Europe for her personal sense of style and enthusiasm for teaching crochet. Now US readers and crafts people can try projects that personify her esthetic.First and foremost, one will find that even beginner crocheters should be able to tackle most of her projects and patterns.There's little to challenge the more advanced. But as we know, everyone likes some quick and easy projects now and then especially when the objects created have visual impact and usefulness, as many of Mill's designs do. There are good instructional photos for techniques. I found the directions clear, with both European and North American stitch names and hook sizes used throughout.I have one major caveat with the book, however. The yarns Ms. Mills used are generally not available in the USA, and must be ordered from European distributors. No problem, one might say, I'll just substitute yarns available in North America … but alas, the patterns don't set a gauge measurement, so one is often left guessing what yarn might work as a substitute. The patterns don't say how much yarn is needed by yardage or skein. The amount is stated only by total weight of the suggested yarn, making substitution much more difficult. There is some very limited and generally unhelpful yarn information given on the last page.

Like it says on the cover modern crochet and tapestry crochet Molla Mills is the best. She explains everything the hooks, the yarns the stitchs. List materials, instructions very clear and the yarns that she uses you can find them here at Joann’s we don’t call them the same but they are here, she also gives you a substitute page. Great book I highly recommend it , becomes addictive, you will find something to do with the patterns for your house, a jewelry for you or as a gift, and many more wonderful patterns.

I am an experienced crocheter and found these patterns to be a welcome addition to my crafting! They are simple enough for beginners but interesting enough for more advanced hooksters. Molla Mills uses a variety of techniques and textures to add a clean modernity to a craft that's had more than its fair share of 70's granny square hot pants and potholders. The patterns are for a home use, i.e: baskets, rugs etc. with a few jewelry pieces and bags. Any one of the patterns would be a very cute adornment for a house.... especially in a craft room!

I bought this book despite of the comment made about the materials only available out of country. This is not true. All of the materials are here. We just don't call theme the same thing. Just look at the weights in the instructions. Also, I have seen every type of yarn in thevery yarn section at Joann's. So don't go off of M.D Edward's 2 star rating. That's not accurate. There's also a substitute page 256. Amazing book highly recommend

I was absolutely in love with this book until I actually began to crochet a rug per the pattern in the book. It took me some time to decipher the directions and find it hard to believe a beginner could successfully follow them. I am wondering how many of the US reviewers have actually made anything in the book. Once deciphered I was very pleased with the rug pattern.

This is an incredible book. Every single project is something I want to make. All photos are clean and professional looking. Truly beautiful work. Love the hardcover book, wonderful crochet resource.

If you consider crochet to be nice and cozy, but a bit frumpy, hold on to your hooks, here comes edgy! Great variety of stylish and beautiful projects, clear instructions, many detailed photographs.

love Love LOVE this book. The patterns are modern and so easy to follow with beautiful photographs and they are quick to do and great for beginners and experts alike. Such a good book which edges away from the traditional. This has to be my favourite crochet book to date.

Fabulous examples, an enjoyable read and worth the price just for the instructions about how to turn an edge at the bottom of a circular basket.

Varied selection of modern designs with some excellent tips for techniques. Easy enough for complete beginners whilst still inspiratioal to those more experienced.

Bought as a present and the recipient was very pleased! It's nice to see a crochet book that's got a modern twist and not your typical 'granny' book. Lovely hardback book would recommend.
