Winner of best book by a foreign author (2019) at the Business Book of the Year Award organised by PwC Russia The future of banking is already here ― are you ready? Bank 4.0 explores the radical transformation already taking place in banking, and follows it to its logical conclusion. What will banking look like in 30 years? 50 years? The world’s best banks have been forced to adapt to changing consumer behaviors; regulators are rethinking friction, licensing and regulation; Fintech start-ups and tech giants are redefining how banking fits in the daily life of consumers. To survive, banks are having to develop new capabilities, new jobs and new skills. The future of banking is not just about new thinking around value stores, payment and credit utility ― it's embedded in voice-based smart assistants like Alexa and Siri and soon smart glasses which will guide you on daily spending and money decisions. The coming Bank 4.0 era is one where either your bank is embedded in your world via tech, or it no longer exists. In this final volume in Brett King's BANK series, we explore the future of banks amidst the evolution of technology and discover a revolution already at work. From re-engineered banking systems, to selfie-pay and self-driving cars, Bank 4.0 proves that we're not on Wall Street anymore. Bank 4.0 will help you: Understand the historical precedents that flag a fundamental rethinking in banking Discover low-friction, technology experiences that undermine the products we sell today Think through the evolution of identity, value and assets as cash and cards become obsolete Learn how Fintech and tech "disruptors" are using behaviour, psychology and technology to reshape the economics of banking Examine the ways in which blockchain, A.I., augmented reality and other leading-edge tech are the real building blocks of the future of banking systems If you look at individual technologies or startups disrupting the space, you might miss the biggest signposts to the future and you might also miss that most of we've learned about banking the last 700 years just isn't useful. When the biggest bank in the world isn't any of the names you'd expect, when branch networks are a burden not an asset, and when advice is the domain of Artificial Intelligence, we may very well have to start from scratch. Bank 4.0 takes you to a world where banking will be instant, smart and ubiquitous, and where you'll have to adapt faster than ever before just to survive. Welcome to the future. Review: This book was a precursor to where the world of Banking was evolving to - 5/5 Rating It's almost unfair to read and review this book now as it's almost like playing Monday Morning Quarterback. The things have happened and are happening now. I currently work in Banking / FinTech but on the operations side so I'm not costumer facing as most ppl in Banking would say. This book talks about the future of banking, a future where currency is digital, where you will enter banks and there will be no lines, no cashiers, no humans to talk to. It's nearly like that now in major cities such as the one I live in. I treasure that human interaction, where you can have a talk and gain information. This book may not resonate with everyone but trusty, the topics discussed resonates with everyone. This is the direction Banking is going. that little device on your pocket that you use every second of every day will be your gateway to the world. It's not integrated into almost every aspect of your life. The sooner we realize the sooner we can adjust. Review: Good Read - So far enjoyable read. Heard his presentation at a credit union conference.

Concepts yet to be implemented
New to the banking sector. Read this book to learn more about the industry and where it could go. Get overview of banking history and the solutions for the future. Great read. Most major banks are working with these concepts in their innovation labs in some order of magnitude.

Comprehensive and interesting read
Brett King's book-Banking 4.0 is not only interesting and well-written but well tracks the huge amount of change that has occurred in the banking sector in the last decade in particular. He then builds on this to then showcase what is already happening by way of new technology and innovation and foreshadows what is likely to happen by way of change in the near future. A great read and well worth it.

The first 100 pages...
Sept 29th: I have yet to make it through the first 100 pages and I'm going through highlighters. The forward thinking here is spot on! So far I'm quite impressed with the examples and clear thinking being presented that I couldn't help but comment. I'll follow up later after I finishing reading for a proper review. Follow up Dec 29th: Brett King's Bank 4.0 is the elixir to modern banking. For the vast majority of credit unions and banks the chemotherapy needle is already in. Case in point on page 247... "The larger problem for banks is that Alibaba/Taobao, Tencent, Apple, Amazon, Baidu, Google, and other platforms incorporating payment gateways, will often know more about their customers than the banks do. If a Beijing car dealer uses a bank debit card for a business trip to Shanghai, the bank knows what airline he or she flew, as well as the hotel and restaurants patronised. If he uses a mobile super-wallet like Alipay or Tencent WeChat, the bank knows nothing about that trip and the bank is data poor." "...banking and technology are synonymous now." Want to see where banking is going in the next decade read this book. If you want to see into the future follow Brett. -Chris

A realistic digital transformation roadmap for your bank
I read this book in year 2019 and consider it very relevant in today's scenario as well because COVID-19 has accelerated the speed of digital adoption in financial services industry. Below are few of the top takeaways from this book: 1. In the new world, if you will ask a post-millennial consumer to sign a piece of paper or visit a building to get service, they won't think that you are crazy...they simply won't understand what you are talking about. 2. Bye-bye products, Hello experiences 3. The next largest financial services company will not be a bank It's a must read for innovators and technologists. Thank you Brett King for writing Bank 4.0.

Insightful read on the future of banking
An excellent, insightful read that articulately summarises how banking will look evolve in the next decade. Brett King provides context and real examples on how various industries (retail, movies, books, music etc..) have been disrupted by technology and how banking as an industry will not be spared either. Very engaging style of writing. Highly recommended.

Technology first, banking second
I like a lot that it explained in detail problems that branch-based are having a how to solve them. I believe it is extremelly useful as a text to evangelize people (specially old people) about the power of Techfin, fintech and new technologies. Now, reading it in 2024 it looks like many of the projections were wrong. Srarting with the voice and super Alexa in banking, Ant Financial overtaking ICBC and Banks (its IPO imploded), crypto and blockchain being the next big thing and some of the neobanks that are mentioned in the book are not that relevant today. But in general I agree with the first principles methodology proposed in the book.

Great for anyone interested in Financial Services
Lovely book by Brett King. Thought provoking, well written and easy to read. I particularly liked the various examples and guest articles interspersed throughout the book. Not only did it bring some of the concepts to life, but I like that Brett is looking beyond just innovation in Western countries. Particularly when it comes to financial services, some of the most innovative ideas have come from outside the developed world where there was a much greater need for innovative FS solutions.

very interesting book
Interesting book about recent trends in banking and how banking may evolve in the future. A lot of interesting facts. The future will likely not be quite what the authors says, but this is as good a forecast as we can do today. Definitely worth reading and it shows that Fintech is driving the banking industry of the future.
