Kurt Adler J3767 Wooden Nativity Advent Calendar With 24 Magnetic Piece

Reading some of the reviews, I was a bit apprehensive about ordering this advent calendar; however, I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived! It was intact, no scratches and no defects. One thing that was not exactly clear to me was that the entire back is magnetic, so you can stick the figures anywhere you want. I ordered this for my not quite 2 year old. When I showed it to him, I wanted him to just open the first 9 boxes as it was December 9, but of course, my toddler wanted to open all the boxes. This actually was good as it allowed me to be certain that all 24 pieces were intact and without defects. They were!It's a very cute set, very entertaining for him, it's quite sturdy, and also provides a way to introduce the Nativity to little ones. He's been opening all the boxes, taking pieces out and putting them back in, and placing them on the magnetic back.Bottom line: this is a high quality advent calendar and so far it's survived my 23 month old boy, who is not particularly gentle, so I'm happy!

We really like this advent calendar. It is exactly what I was looking for - a well-made, wooden calendar that depicted what Christmas was all about. As other reviews indicate, the individual pieces do appear to be hand painted and are really lovely. The pieces fit well into the numbered slots. You can even fit a piece of chocolate in with the pieces if desired. The reason for the four stars is the scene tends to get a little crowded as each day passes making the end result a bit busy. However, my daughter enjoyed putting the pieces on the scene. We look forward to many years with this calendar and would very much recommend it to others.

Yes this Advent calendar is beautiful, and the kids enjoy it and actually think about the real meaning of Christmas. But there is a little problem with it, well actually two. First off the figures, though very nice are a bit too large for the space, we are on day 13 and it is filled with the barn animals, there is very little space left. I think they could have avoided this if the animals were a tad smaller, some of them are going to be relegated to either the table or floating in the sky, in order to fit the Three Kings and the Holy Family. The next little problem is that the figures fit in certain cubbys, the only problem here is that we wanted the last three days to be Joseph, Mary and of course finally the baby Jesus, but Joseph doesn't fit in these spots and he will have to appear on day 18.Now if you notice I still give the calendar 5 stars because it IS beautiful, the colors, the figures, are all well made in terms of how they are drawn and colored, and the calendar itself is very well made also. And most importantly the girls really love it and are getting a kick opening and decorating the scene. So my little problems with it are overshadowed by how great the calendar is as a whole. I just thought I'd mention those aspects that we as adults might see, mind you our girls really don't mind.For all of you thinking of buying this you definitely should, very good construction. Definitely will last many,many years.

I just received this Advent calendar and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. It is very sturdily constructed; I expect that this will last for years. Some things that aren't obvious from the picture/description: The inside of each compartment is painted dark blue. The tin manger scene in the center has raised areas, and the three dimensions give it a richer look than if it were flat. The nicest surprise was that each of the figures is wood and appears to be hand-painted. The magnet on each is small and embedded into the back of the figure, so the figure sits flush against the tin background. The magnets are strong, too, so each piece securely connects to the background (no sliding down once you let go). Please note that some of the figures are small (e.g., stars) and could present a choking hazard to a very young child. I wish it were a little deeper (I measure the depth at 1 and 5/8th inches), but because of the weight and sturdiness of it, it does stand securely on its own. There are two hooks at the top of the back for hanging it. All in all, I am very pleased with this calendar - I know my young daughter will enjoy the excitement of opening the doors each day and slowly creating the Nativity scene. And it is beautifully crafted, so I'll enjoy seeing it in our living room during the Advent season. It is well worth the cost. And incidently, it arrived two days after I ordered it (and I chose the Super Saver shipping, so 'didn't expect it to ship for 5 or more days).

This is an heirloom piece. Made of wood and very well crafted. There is enough space in each box besides the magnet to place candy for the kids. I am very pleased with this purchase.

This is an excellent product. The chapters fit in the numbered shelves and each day my grand daughter puts one one the Bethlehem manger. She loves it. It is well built

A really cute sturdy set. No assembly required! My 10 year old really enjoyed putting the nativity set together leading up to Christmas. I wrapped each piece in tissue paper and I also put a trivia question in as well for each day. If he got it right,I gave him a small treat( but these would not fit in the compartments.) The only bad thing is the boxes on the sides are narrower than the ones on the top and bottom, and the corner ones are tiny-so some pieces would only fit in certain places. Now this would only matter if you cared what order each "character" appeared each day. For example, baby jesus can fit on the 24th day but Mary, Joseph, Angels etc can't appear on the 19-23rd days. Usually the important dudes are opened near the end but you will have to mix it up. Regardless I am happy I bought this set and I would recommend it.

Purchased for my almost-2 year old grandson. The frame and drawers are wooden. The middle section is painted metal. The little magnet figures come out of the drawers and onto the metal picture with Baby Jesus being the last figure to appear. There is room enough for a little treat to be in the drawer with the figure. It will be a great tool to reinforce the "reason for the season". A beautiful keepsake.
