Very, very versatile! Used in ways I didn't think I'd use it!
This is an awesome little tripod that works great. I'm using it with a Nikon D90 with battery grip (including 2 batteries) and it holds the weight just fine. The ball head on this tripod is sturdy for the application. I wanted a small, lightweight tripod that I could carry easily when I was mobile without having to take my larger Manfrotto tripod with me. This unit is very small in size and easily clips onto my SlingShot 202AW camera bag. The ball head has a quick release plate that attaches to your camera and there is a level on the back side for convenience. It's a 1/4" thread screw with a flat-blade notch for tightening. You might want to carry a quarter or other coin with you to tighten this screw. Another method I found that works well if you DON'T have a coin is to get the screw finger-tight with the back of the quick release plate (side with the level on it) pointed to "10 o'clock". Then just turn the quick release plate to "12 o'clock" and it tightens up. Turn the quick release plate counterclockwise to loosen the screw. Using the tripod is easy with the adjustable legs. Each "nub" has it's own ability to twist and pivot within it's mount so you can really twist this thing around a number of items for great shots. I recently wanted to take a photo of me and a bunch of friends lined up a staircase in a vacation home so I wrapped the Gorillpod around the top of a dining room chair for a make-shift tripod mount and was able to get the shot. Very nice. I used it to take pictures of a sunrise by wrapping the Gorillapod around the corner of a patio deck and was able to get the shot. It just sets up so quickly that it's hard NOT to want to use this thing more and more. I read reviews where users said that getting the legs straight after bending them was an issue but I didn't find it hard at all. As I mentioned above, each nub can pivot in it's own mount so just work the legs moving one mount at a time and you'll get them straight in no time. It seriously only takes less than 30 seconds. However, even if it took longer it's still worth it because the Gorillapod allows you to get really creative in taking photos. You're not supposed to take photos from the same vantage points as your true amateur...you're supposed to capture angles not seen before and this tripod definitely helps achieve that goal. I recommend this unit 200%. Absolutely worth the money, it's lightweight, build quality is solid, and the ball head is smooth but tight. Great buy for the money and you won't be disappointed.

Great for travel!!!
I purchased this for a recent trip to Florence,Italy, to use with my Sony A77. I'm just an amateur photographer and wanted something sturdy that was easy to carry around...and light because I knew I was going to walk a lot. Portability: When I wanted to stash this, it fit nicely in my Lowepro Fastpack 250. It just lays down in the top main compartment. When I wanted quick access, I kind of clamped the legs around the bottom of the straps...down by my waist. I never had an issue with it slipping off, and it was relatively out of the way. Use-ability: I really liked that I could just set this on railings (or wrap the legs around the railings) for different shots. It was sturdy enough to take excellent night-time shots where I dragged the shutter. I also set this on top of trashcans, benches, and of course directly on the ground. The quick disconnect was great, for all the reasons that you would want a quick disconnect for your tripod. Limitations: Because the legs are fixed in length (and short), I was limited to picking a location that had a trashcan/bench/railing, or settling for a low vantage point from the ground. Frustrations: After a full days use, I found the quick disconnect sometimes getting loose and slipping/rotating as I was taking pics in the portrait (sideways) orientation. I was able to pull out a coin to easily tighten it, so it wasn't THAT big a deal. The trashcans in Florence were decorative, and I noticed the legs slipping on the smooth/angled/painted surfaces. I had to get a little creative on how to place/set up the legs to get stability. I was able to get my shots, but it was definitely a frustration to figure out exactly how to maneuver the legs on those occasions. This is a great tripod that could definitely handle the weight of my DSLR camera. You need to pay attention to the placement of the legs when you flip for the portrait orientation, to make sure the camera stays balanced...but I think that's something to be expected for a small, lightweight tripod. I definitely recommend this tripod if you need portability!!!

Fabulous tripod
I was concerned about purchasing the correct size Gorillapod so first visited the Joby website to make sure this one would fit my Canon EOS SLR. This tripod is great so far; I especially love the bubble level so that I can be sure my photo is straight. The detachable 'foot' fit my camera body well and I will leave it in place so that I can snap the camera quickly into place when I use the tripod. I suspect this one will replace my traditional fixed leg tripod in many instances now that it has the bubble level as this is obviously much easier to carry with me than my traditional tripod. I actually have attached it to my camera bag, a Lowepro bag, so that I will never be with out it. I had a smaller Joby for my point and shoot which served me well for many months but I just gave it away when I was in Thailand to somebody who admired it and had never seen one before ( perhaps not sold over there). I plan on replacing that one with another Joby shortly as they are well made and hold their position well. This one has some substance on the feet that keep it from slipping which is helpful when at a steep angle. Spend the money for this one if you want a sturdy, well constructed tripod with a level.
