I've used Altama boots for 30 years but recently they were unavailable in my size. When I found them in my size again, I immediately purchased a pair. The boots arrived as expected but there was a problem with the insoles. Both boots had damaged insoles, with one being heavily creased and the other one with a smaller crease. I've attempted to flatten out the creases but I may need to replace the inserts. Other than that, they are the same excellent boots I've always received from Altama. They DO require some break-in, so if you're adverse to that - do not purchase these boots. However, once they are broken in, they fit like an Italian leather glove.I have several pairs of Altama boots, some over 20 years old. Once broken in they are like old friends. They are not waterproof but with the occasional application of some mink oil, they are water resistant enough for all-around use. I wouldn't spend 8 hours in the snow with them or work in the rain all-day with them (I have better boots for those tasks).Everyone is different and you need to find what works for you. I cannot wear Danner's, for some reason they just don't fit me at all. Belleville boots sort of work for me and are my wet weather boot. The Altama's do work for and they hold up well. So, if you're having problems finding that right boot, give the Altama a try.

They fit but I could have stuck with my size and been fine. These fit like an old familiar glove
Ordered a half size smaller due to previous reviews. They fit but I could have stuck with my size and been fine. These fit like an old familiar glove. I was issued these exact boots in 1997. They are tripple stitched on all the seems, the tongue is part of the upper leather so there is no way you're going to get wet wearing these. Outsoles are replaceable and stitched to the shoe. No glue to come loose and leave your sole flopping like some others. They are hands down the best boots I have ever owned. I am so glad they are making these again. Army uniform regulation changes made these boots pretty rare for a number of years. If you want a boot that will last a decade for under $100, these are the only way to go. Pick up some black kiwi, polish them up and they should last forever.

Decent cheap boots
In short:Pros:* Decent-weight leather* Good stitch redundancy* Good speedlace eyelets* Padded collar* Even coloration* Look good - none of this "lace-to-toe" stuffCons:* Somewhat sloppy stitching* Unstitched soles* Unisole* Leather weight in the tongue is a bit heavy* Leather needed conditioning badly upon arrivalI have only just gotten these boots - more once I have worn them longer.

Combat Boots
I absolutely love these boots, I haven't even done the proper break-in of filling them with hot water and letting them sit overnight then wearing them all day and doing a good 5+ mile hike in them. However fresh out of the box they fit wonderfully and the size does correspond to the sizes for the standard issued Belleville hot weather boots. As soon as I put them on and laced them up, I was instantly taken back to my first day of Basic training back in 2001 when I got my first issue of the very same boots. It's wonderful finally have my black combat boots back and it was well worth the 4yr. search and totally worth having if you love a good boot that will keep your feet dry within reason.

Size runs too large
Outstanding boot. I've worn these boots in the service and when I tried these on it brought back memories. Unfortunately the boys run extremely large. I wear a size 12, I bought a size 12.... The boys for like they are a size 13. I have returned the boots

Size is way off
I wear a size 12 in every boot I ever had. That includes the military, work boot, and casual. I also wear a size 12 in all my running shoes and casual shoes. These have at least 2 inches more then an average 12. They are 13 if not a 14. Not sure how they size them. The quality seems good you have size 14 feet.

Just as good as I remember.....
I was issued several pairs of these during my time in the military. I grew up wearing work boots, and I remember being fond of my 'cruit boots from the moment I first put them on. These boots from Altama are those boots...And they're every bit as good as I remember! Outstanding workmanship, comfort, and durability in a no-nonsense boot. The vertical metal loop speed-lace eyelets and military issue laces make these easy on, and easy off. Some may not like the lacing system or the tongue (both complaints I heard from others years ago), but you really cant beat the quality/price ratio on these. Great job Altama!
