Why I Assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.

This book written by Gopal Godse in 1993, presenting the statement of his brother Nathuram Godse at the Red Fort trail (aka Gandhi ji assassination case). The book I purchased claims to be 2020 edition; is about 195 pages. The book lacks editorial oversight in terms of quality of print, spelling mistakes and organization of the book. The book has some 10+ sections as detailed in its table of contents. I can tolerate with these editorial lapse😊. The deposition and response of Nathuram Godse makes-up 50-60% of the book's content. I feel, the book can be read in one-to-two days, but may require more time to critically analyze the contentsBefore I start of the book, let me state my orientation; how much ever I may be fascinated by the thoughts, the eloquence and finally many verifiable facts presented in the book, at the end I condone murder, in the strongest of words. however genuine the final motive may be! But still I strongly feel there is a merit in critically analyzing Nathuram Godse as a proxy to his contemporaries and the cost they felt they had to pay for our independence, rather than labeling him as a common religious extremist and removing his narratives from the annals of Indian independence struggle. It is even more critical to hear his story, as you would read in the following lines, there were larger forces to suppress his narrativeThe book starts with the overview to the shooting incident at the Birla house by Nathuram Godse on 30-Jan-1948. Followed by the details of investigation and the formation of the special court. The proceeding in the court, the judgment, the appeals and the events until, the main accused Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were hanged on 15-Nov-1949. In addition, a brief profile of all the other accused, in the case is presented. Couple of sections, detail the authors thoughts and challenges during these chain of eventsUntil 1968, this deposition of Nathuram Godse, was shrouded over with secrecy, due to a ban not to publish it! There is definitely a lot of facts presented through this book, to critically analyze the Indian independence struggle, esp. the part Gandhi ji played. Nathuram Godse’s deposition runs to 150 paragraphs, which seemed to be backed by facts and referencesPersonally, I think, when it comes to humanities studies it is all about rich and thick narrations, providing multiple perspective from various people. One such person critical in the set of people running-up to Indian independence struggle is Nathuram Godse (more like a common citizen whose life is impacted by the actions of more active freedom fighters like Gandhi ji and others). Unfortunately, our history classes/teachers didn't give us access to hearing contrarian view. We were made to ignore Nathuram Godse’s story, by labelling him as a killer.This book gets into more specifics to, illustrate clearly the various dictums Gandhi ji put, which made common people to lose their lives, family, property, etc., Personally, I too feel partition was a very heavy price to pay for getting our independence. My argument rests on the fact, even after a bloody civil war, did USA partition?Finally, the book ends with an epilogue, where the author confirms the Gandhian philosophy has been detrimental to the nation in the last 45 yrs. (1947-93). A translation of Nathuram Godse's will and few photos of the accused concludes the bookTo conclude, this review - there is always two side of the truth i.e., mine and yours. So read this book to find out what is that you feel is the truth about Nathuram Godse's story! since these are mine😇

My first encounter with this book is when a room mate in a PG who was CA final year student was reading a book with Godse name.I dont know this existed before that. When I asked whats that, he said the book was banned by a notorious Political party for decades and Media dsnt even write about it as a hand in hand.If such powerful forces are trying to burry it , this must be much more powerful than them combindly is my thought and read it. Wow what a selfless man Godse is !

Its always better to read & understand all types of views of our great independence leaders. In this book Godse’s views are explained by his own Speech in the court and various letters he wrote while in jail. Good read

Justifying a big wrong

I don't like the page quality but 5 ⭐ for the content. This is must read book...youth from that time .. were filled with patriotism and great idealogies.But today's youth hardly read these kind of stuffs.

The media could not be loaded.  The product packaging was worst. My book got bended. Overall I am currently reading this book and if you do not like history probably you will get to learn more things from this book (positive ones). This book not only justifies Godse's deed but also tells us what happened at that time what was the people's mentality, political issues, lack of leadership and also the sins of Gandhi and political parties. This book is a harsh book not by language but by the truth vs Lie. Nathuram Godse was left in a line as ' CRAZY AND VIOLENT' . But none of we know the intention behind his deeds. Overall must read book if you wanna know what happened between the span of five years 1945- 1949
