Bench Seat Hinge for Toy Chest- Lid Support Stay Hinge- Heavy Duty No Slam Safety Torsion Hinge.

My wife and I own a fifth wheel RV. There are two steps leading up to the bathroom/bedroom area from the living area of the trailer. During a recent project I was working on in the trailer I needed to remove the stair treads (the tops of the stairs) and when I did I discovered that the RV manufacturer had not used the space "under" the stairs for any purpose. Storage space is always at a premium in an RV so my wife asked me if we could find a way to make the steps open like the lid of a chest so we could utilize the space. I turned to Amazon and found these hinges/lid supports. I like the fact that these hinges are designed to lift the lid up and away, meaning the lid does not extend past the back plane of the box like a piano hinge, or other simple hinges do. Also, these hinges are spring loaded which creates the support when the lid (stair) is open and puts slight downward on the lid (stair) when closed to help keep the lid closed. I read some of the other reviews which talk about the lack of installation instructions and they are correct, they are no installation instructions included. There is one picture on the product info page with gives a measurement of 1.5" from the back edge of the lid to the rear screw hole for the lid portion of the hinge. Any and all other measurements for installation has to be calculated by the installer. All-in-all I am pleased with the hinges. I just installed them yesterday so I cannot speak to long term durability.

The media could not be loaded. these are definitely not soft close items. they will smash fingers. i installed these on my window seat (see photos).the seat weighs 17.8# (yes i weighed it). as you can see in the video, the lid slams shut (even with the addition of 2 softclose adapters). the installation was guess work as the only dimension given was for 1 set of horizontal holes. three tries to get the best location vertically. will now have to buy additional items to protect grandchildren from getting hurt. these are the worst items i have ever purchased on amazon and i purchase a lot of items.

Hinges work great. No instructions or screws included. Held up my bench covers just fine.

This is a sturdy well-built item. Unfortunately, it did not properly fit my work piece due the position of the hinge. There were no 'included' installation instructions, the an installation visual was noted in the ad for the item.

I wanted hinges for a small solid wood chest I had built. They arrived with no instructions nor fasteners (screws). There were very limited and incomplete "instructions" in the photos supplied on the product's page in the Amazon web site. However, I don't recommend following these guidelines as it will depend on how you want your lid to sit with the box part of the chest. I ended up making three different holes in my precious wood lid until I got the position right (see photo). Also, beware of the position for the screws that fasten the hinge to the box section; I initially placed them too close to the edge of the box and didn't check to see if the lid would close: when the lid closes, a part of the hinge projects backwards, so you must consider this and leave some room between the hinge and the back wall of the box. Make sure to test everything out before drilling holes, a task that is complicated by the fact that it is hard to action the hinge holding it in place. Finally, the hinge leaves a gap between the lid and the box; I solved this by placing a pair of plastic bumpers on the inside the front of the lid, which happened to match the gap that the hinge left in the back. As my chest is small and light, the hinges work well holding the lid in the open position; in fact, it is so light that when I open the lid I have to hold the box part down or I will just tip it over.

I had a little problem with the delivery, but the seller promptly sorted it all out. The hinges work perfect.

Look and feel good but no template nor guidance and to where to place them. Once you drill the holes its final and sadly I was a little short but crap happens

These hinges are NOT heavy duty. I installed them properly on a wooden chest (with my own screws because none were included) flat top heavy duty screws and these did not hold an 8 lb. wood top up and did NOT soft close. Do not recommend
