These are steel but not galvanized. I'll get back to you in a decade on whether rust causes a problem, but so far they hold landscape timbers down just fine.

Does not work for Killing roots on plants.
I purchased copper nails to pound into existing roots. I was told it would destroy the root system. It has not. There are new plants growing out of the roots. The plant was taken down as far as it feasibly could.
