Q: Does the key lock the bolt into open position?

When in the open position the bolt will then slide and allow you to open the door or you can slide the bolt to lock and the door can't open. Once the key is turned to lock the bolt will not move. I hope this helps...we have had ours for a few years now and we love it.

Q: Can this be mounted on the outside for security? Or do you make a different product for that?

This product can be installed on the exterior side for keyed access but bolt screws would have to be used instead of the included wood/metal screws.

Q: Does the key move the bolt or you have to manually move the bolt and then just lock it with the key?

The key only locks/unlocks it. You manually have to move the pin to the up/down position. This is a great product. We don't always lock ours, but push the pin up/down when we are going in/out frequently & it is secure. The pin stays firmly in place no matter the position. Not really sure if you actually NEED to lock it to make it secure, but the option is there.
