Two 48 HRS for the price of One (Widescreen)
48 HRS remains one of my favorite all-time buddy cop movies (it was, basically, the first) with just the right amount of Eddie Murphy humor showcasing the, also, stellar work by Nick Nolte the "straight" man in the piece.Nolte as "Cates" makes a very controversial decision early in the movie hoping an unarmed fellow cop will be spared his life. He is not and Cates the maverick cop is placed under extreme scrutiny by pretty much all he works with in the San Fran police force.Enter "convict" Murphy as a last desperate chance to help clear Cates' name and regain his standing with his fellow officers. The fun is under way, while the violence and the "cannon" fire from those 44 Magnums never let up.San Francisco and "Chinatown Huh?" look great. James Remar was pretty much typecast (rightfully so?) as a bad guy after his stone cold, crazed performance as "Ganz" who it appears "...likes killing cops more than getting laid".And that cool-as-it gets movie music (the late James Horner) as Cates and "Reggie Hammond" follow, investigate and cruise thru San Francisco deep into the streets and alleys of Chinatown.Director Walter Hill was at the top of his "action" Director game while, also, co-writing the screenplay. Not much of the same can be said about ANOTHER 48 HRS. Walter Hill did put his name on the Director template again, but I would not be surprised to find out his name was put there just for commercial reasons.Murphy is not quite as funny and Nolte comes across as a more annoying version of Cates. He should have been more somber in the sequel with Internal Affairs breathing down his neck.If you allow the "Iceman" subplot plot not be a distraction then you might be surprised how ANOTHER 48 HRS stays close to the original - in a good way. A plot twist might be a pleasant surprise...but, I obviously got this double feature for the Original's violence, humor, and San Fran locales.4 stars total. Widescreen (for both movies) a plus, too.

Good movies for a good price
48 Hours was the first movie to start the "Buddy cop" film genre where a cop is partnered up with another person and develop a friendship through teamwork and understanding each other's differences. This movie starts out like a serious action movie but shifts to some comedy as soon as Eddie Murphy, who plays a convict let out on parole to team up with a pretty grumpy police officer (Nick Nolte) for 48 Hours to help catch some killers comes in. Nolte is also good. There is plenty of action and humor with the two constantly bickering and fighting with each other and then having sympathy like good old friends do! The sequel is also worth watching and equally as good as the first one. I'd recommend this for a family movie night for the 15 year old-adult audiences if you want 2 hilarious and thrilling movies for a surprisingly cheap price. Also look for these: Lethal Weapon: 4 Film Favorites , 4 Film Favorites: Dirty Harry Collection (Dirty Harry / Magnum Force / The Enforcer / Sudden Impact) , Four Film Favorites: Chris Tucker Collection (Rush Hour / Rush Hour 2 / Rush Hour 3 / Money Talks) , Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Collection (Die Hard / Die Hard 2: Die Harder / Die Hard with a Vengeance / Live Free or Die Hard / Decoding Die Hard) [Blu-ray ] Beverly Hills Cop Collection (Beverly Hills Cop / Beverly Hills Cop II / Beverly Hills Cop III)

Who doesn't like Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy.
Who doesn't like Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. As a team, they are even better. Both movies are great. Sometimes a sequel does not hold up to the original movie. Not the case with this double feature.

Sur un seul disque
Les deux films sont sur la même face d'un seul disque. Qualité de l'image, pas pire. Le son, pas très bon. Mais comme ces films sont des classiques de ces années là, je suis content de les avoir.
