A good read
I bought two sets, one for my granddaughter in LA, so we could read together over Skype, as I was aware she hadn’t yet got into reading for pleasure mode. We have very much enjoyed the first book and look forward to devouring the rest. At the same time I have been introducing her to Latin with Book One of the Cambridge Latin Course, so it has all tied neatly together and allowed her to be much more aware of the similarities and differences between her life and that of the gang of children in the book 2000 years ago. As we progress through the series, she will be able to follow the excellent BBC dramatisations of most of the books too which are available on YouTube.

Grandson enjoying book 1 as a Bedtime story.
I bought this set of books for our nine year old granddaughter. She has yet to read them, as still immersed in a series of fantasy novels. But I've been told our younger grandson is really enjoying book 1 being read to him by his dad at bedtime.

Very impressed, decent writing, exciting adventures set in Roman times
These books are tasteful, adventurous, historical and just right for my 9 year old son. He’s already on book 6 and is wanting the next bunch of books which will follow on from this box set. If I was a boy I perhaps would want more danger and excitement vs the focus on human relations which in my old fashioned sense I feel may appeal more to girls. The books may wish to try and have maximum appeal so are trying to hit both of these ‘markets’. Given the amount of focus on ‘teenage’ issues in many modern books, I feel these books still keep a classic sense of adventure and drama which is good to know as a parent. Teenage issues will come soon enough
