I LOVE THIS! I'll tell you why and I'll debate the haters of this product>
I've had this for just under 5 years. It is amazing. I will provide my opinion on some of the things I have heard people complain about. 1. Too bright at night- NO IT'S NOT. The light is there to attract the little gnats. If the light is too bright for you at night, don't put it where it will disturb you. 2. Sticky pad not sticky enough. YES IT IS. I can literally open the door and see the gnats trying to free themselves from the sticky pad. The pad is so sticky, just by them landing on it, they can no longer move. Imagine their tiny little legs, probably the size if a hair strand, can get so stuck to the pad and try to escape without success. Yes, once in a blue moon, a gnat might be able to break free but then they just die from not eating. They can't get out once they are in. On rare occasions, one will fly away if you open the door and he hasn't landed yet but I can say that the entire bottom is covered in dead gnats and that is when I change the "board" as they call it. One pad can and will last for months. The stickiness doesn't go away as time goes on. Nothing dries up. 3. Too expensive. NOT IT'S NOT. I paid $6 more for this unit then it cost today. The price has literally gone down. Depending on how important it is for you to control the fruit flies or fungus gnats, will determine what it is worth to you. MY ONLY COMPLAINT: The manufacturer needs to make this unit easier to clean. You can take it apart to get to the fan but it is probably a good 45 minute job to break the unit down to the fan area. I've cleaned mine once. No matter how dusty the fan blades get, it still always works and always attracts the gnats. It will even suck in a big house fly or moth on occasion. Summary - I'm not sure why this is labeled as a "frequently returned item". Define frequent. When there are 17,000 reviews with an average of 4 starts, seems like some really hate it and some really love it. It really depends on your situation. I just purchased a 2nd one yesterday. If one works great, 2 will be phenomenal! I am giving 5 starts because of it's effectiveness. Based on what I paid and how long it has lasted, so far it has only cost $.02 cents per day. WELL WORTH IT!

Exactly what we needed & it WORKS!
Works better than expected! I initially only bought one Katchy, just to see how well it was going to work, and now I own 3 of them!!! Absolutely LOVE this product! I started off with the black “automatic” Katchy. This one is a little more expensive since it has an automatic setting that allows the machine to turn itself on when it gets dark at night and to turn itself off when it gets light out. So it’s basically only running at night when you’re sleeping and it’s off during the day. The fan noise is definitely noticeable, but not super loud. I also have 2 other Katchy’s that are a little less expensive than the automatic one, and they have to be manually turned on. However, a nice feature that I like with that version is that there’s a “standard” fan speed (and the light is brighter) and then there’s a “low” fan speed (and the light is dimmer). I definitely like the benefits of both models for different reasons. So you’ll want to figure out where you’re going to place your Katchy and what features are best for your situation. My automatic Katchy sits closest to my kitchen and sunroom where 90% of my plants live and most of the fungus gnats/fruit flies come from. My family room is open to this area too and the noise from the Katchy is barely noticeable. I leave all of my Katchy’s run 24/7, but I have and will use the automatic feature from time to time. The fan speed and light brightness is not adjustable with the “automatic “ version. Either it’s running all the time or it’s set to come on only at night. The other 2 Katchy’s that I have are the manual ones that you have to turn on and set the fan speed to “standard” or “low” and then turn it off yourself when you don’t want it running. I have 1 in my formal living room where I have a few plants and then 1 in the master bedroom where there’s also a few plants. The benefits to using the manual Katchy is that I can set it to the low setting and the fan noise and light brightness are significantly lower and not going to bother you if you’re relaxing or trying to sleep. The pictures provided show the sticky pads after about 2 weeks. The one with the most bugs is from the Katchy that sits next to my kitchen and sunroom where I have 20+ plants. And then the picture of the pad with the fewer bugs is from the Katchy in my formal living room. (Where I have 3 plants) I did not include a picture of the bedroom Katchy since I only got it just a few days ago. ;) I hope this information helps and I HIGHLY recommend this product. As you can see, it not only caught the pesky fungus gnats, but it also caught a few other things too. I am amazed at how many bugs this thing catches from week to week. I had an annoying gnat problem because of my house plants but I would have NEVER in my wildest dreams imagined that I would be throwing away pads that look like this every few weeks. It’s amazing!

I bought two of these because we were dealing with a hostage situation and I was desperate. I repotted a plant and apparently the soil was the Trojan horse. Anyways. I love these. I love how effective they are. I used all 8 sticky traps in two weeks and they were all disgustingly full with treasonous flies. I don’t even know where the flies were coming from, but they just kept coming to the machine. I swapped out the traps every few days. I recommend having a container of some kind to put the old traps in to wait for all the bugs to die. This way you don’t restart an out break from the garbage. When the traps get full there’s obviously less sticky surface left and you get some flies that are trapped in the machine but not dead yet. I just used the plastic the traps came in. There’s reviews saying it didn’t work….. I’m wondering if y’all didn’t know to put the sticky side up cause I have no clue how this wouldn’t work. My only complaint is that the refill pads are expensive. I don’t mind the initial investment into the machine, but a set of 4 per machine is just not enough when dealing with an outbreak.

It's not working on fruit flies, masquitoes. Not to buy

This thing actually works. After trying numerous other ways of catching gnats this is the one that has been the best by a long shot.

I researched Katchy online and ordered this item because it shows it is a Katchy. It isn’t. It says SOHOW. I don’t mind, but I paid more for this thinking it was the real thing - you can buy knock-offs for a few pounds on other websites. It took quite a while to arrive (I didn’t mind waiting for the real thing...), so it missed the infestation of midges In our kitchen. I haven’t used it much so far therefore, and can’t really say whether it’s effective or not. If it turns out to be really good I will update this review to say so - the two star rating is for being sold a replica instead of a Katchy.
