It works. It's great. But it's tricky
Oh my goodness, replacing and refilling Sodastream bottles are way too expensive and just not worth it.So get this thing and refill them yourself.I got my tank of CO2 from a local brewery supply. And I can get it refilled for $20. So far I have refilled 10 Sodastream bottles and still counting. As others have said, open the valve on the main tank very slowly. And I mean VERY SLOWLY.I almost gave up until I reread the reviews and tried it again. "VERY SLOWLY". Now I have refilled 7 CO2 bottles with no problems. As others have mentioned, it is true, and some of the Sodastream bottles have a tricky valve and if you try to input too much pressure, too fast, it will close internally, and you have to start over again. (Possibly their way of wanting you to buy more bottles? Or maybe a safety feature so you don't blow up the bottle under too much pressure.) Either way, it's tricky. My simple instructions?1. screw the adapter to the main tank.2. Screw the Sodastream bottle onto the adapter.3. Ever so slightly start to open up the main tank until you hear a hiss, then STOP and leave it alone and let it fill. Watch the gauges as they equalize. If it stops hissing, slightly open the main valve a hair more until you're done.* As others have also mentioned, I don't use the valve at the top of the Sodastream bottle, because once you start putting gas in, it allows it to flow into the bottle anyway. Some say to freeze the Sodastream bottles first. That does allow you to get more gas in the bottle. But I don't worry about it. I may not get as much out of them, but I can't see it being that big of a difference.

It works, but there are definitely some gotchas
So. To start with. Ultimately, it worked. That's great. The downside is it doesn't exactly work as advertised, but with some fiddling you can get it done. The worst thing is that the main valve (on the piece that attaches to the tank) seems to become completely inoperable under pressure this rendering their instructions mostly useless. But all you have to do is leave that valve partially open all the time and you can make it work. For new soda stream bottles (with a 6mm broad button rather than a tiny sharp button) you have to start slow and then open up. With the broken valve you need to do that with the valve on your tank. Just hook the adaptor to the tank, hook the soda stream bottle to the adaptor, tighten down the valve that opens the soda stream bottle and then just barely crack the tank valve. You'll hear a quiet stream of liquid going into the bottle. Then after about ten seconds you can open it up to accelerate the process. If you open too fast it'll just stop and you won't hear anything. Close everything up, vent the pressure and try again. The colder your bottle the more it'll fill. With a bottle fresh from the freezer I got about half of the tank's rated capacity. No big deal, just takes a few seconds to refill, but be aware. So yeah. It works, but there are some pitfalls. Work through them and you'll be rewarded with cheap fizzy water

Thread needed to be chased
INITIAL REVIEW. I have not used this yet so will update the review if I have any issues. Initial impressions were mixed. First understand there are two parts in one box that you will have to screw together to make up the assembly you see in the picture. There is a round (cylindrical) fitting which is what adapts to the SodaStream (SS) bottle. There is a straight thread nipple that comes already screwed into the round fitting. The other end of that straight thread nipple has to be screwed into the hex fitting, which is what screws onto the CO2 valve on the donor tank. PROBLEM: male thread was not properly finished (chamfered, whatever) and would not thread into the hex fitting. I had to use a thread file to clean it up. Once I did that, everything went smoothly. I'd say if you are willing to chase the threads with a file, you will like this equipment. It has good features. The SS adapter comes with an external knob for adjusting the plunger that opens the release valve on the top the SS bottle. This is WAY better than some fittings that use an adjustment pin that you must pre-set with an Allen wrench before attaching to the SS bottle. The adapter to the source tank appears to have a needle valve for fine adjustment of the flow from the donor tank. This is necessary because if you charge too fast, evidently the SS outlet plunger will slam down and not allow it to fill. The gages (there are two) should be a good help for knowing what is going on inside. Hopefully they will be reliable.

The adapter valve does not work - returned unit
I could not get this to work. I have read all the reviews and know that I am supposed to open the adapter valve very slowly. I can blow air through the adapter with my mouth so I know that the valve is open, at least part way. When I attach the adapter to the donor tank, I could not get CO2 past the adapter valve. Under pressure from the donor tank the adapter valve is quite hard to turn and it seems like the valve seal is NOT releasing to allow CO2 to pass. I tried with WITHOUT the soda stream tank and the same thing happened so it is NOT a problem with the soda stream anti fill mechanism. Then I tried first opening the adapter valve BEFORE I opened the donor tank wheel valve, again WITHOUT the soda stream tank. Then I opened the donor tank very slowly and I did get a small amount of CO2 passing through the adapter, but then it stopped. There should be NO blockage of CO2 when the adapter valve is opened and there is no soda stream tank. I believe that the adapter valve and the seal are defective. Either the seal is NOT pulling off the valve seat or there is some foreign material inside that is blocking the flow under high pressure. I returned this unit and am ordering a different style adapter. On the good side, I did like that this adapter is one solid piece with no hose and fewer parts that could cause leaks. I also liked that it is very compact. I really wish that this would have worked for me but it is hard to compare this to those that work for other since I have no access to those working ones. Maybe I got a bad one. I'm hoping I have better luck with a different model.
