The pencil for those who don't like pencils
My use cases for pencils are pretty limited -- basically, when I need to make unobtrusive highlights/markings on a page or when I want to be able to erase something easily. I just want to write and not think about it.But the things that bother me about pencils -- wearing a flat/sharp plane into the lead, writing with too broad a line, leads that break partway up the sleeve -- are perfectly solved by this .3 mm Kuru Toga. It's incredibly light in the hand and writes a consistent line without any fuss. It looks okay -- no one will mistake it for an executive pencil or a purposeful-looking engineering tool, but it isn't trying to be those things, either. It's fun to use, does a great job, and simply delivers solid value. If it automatically advanced the lead in addition to rotating it around and keeping a perfect point, then it would truly be the mechanical pencil of my dreams. But for now, this pencil makes me happy to use it every time I pick it up, and for a casual pencil user, that's pretty much all I could ask.

Finally, a 0.3 that works!
The superfine 0.3 mechanical pencils have been around for years, and always had the drawback that the leads would break easily--for me, to the final result they could only be used for drafting. Now comes Uni who have added the sliding-pipe feature to support the lead, and it slowly retracts as you use it. This makes all the difference, and even with a soft 2B lead the pencil is usable. As an added benefit, the whole point can be retracted for shirt-pocket carry. Total win!

Another great Advance
This is my third Advance, my other two are a blue and black in 0.5mm.0.3mm is my favorite and this one does not disappoint. The color is almost iridescent pearl, very nice, and the weight makes the pencil apply the right pressure to keep an even line without breaking.Kuru Toga mechanisms have always intrigued me. The little machine and the quality make this a enthusiasts dream.

Rotation mech bad
The rotation mechanism hardly works unless you specifically make an effort to write in such a way that allows it to work. When a lead stick is running out (like 70-80%) used, the entire mechanism begins moving vertically up and down--you have to toss ~15-20% of your lead stick and start a fresh one.
