Sam & Maddie’s Emotional Story Of Second Chances Shows That Success Doesn’t Buy Happiness!
Dr. Madeline Reynolds, thirty-four, has given up on her dream of a family. Raised in the foster system, she had hoped for a family of her own one day that might fill the void, the empty feeling that consumes her. She hasn’t had a serious man in her life since college, but she also cannot say she feels she is missing out on much. She is committed to her career as a family practice doctor and works full-time as a hospitalist to pay her bills and finance her passion: her clinic. She runs a free clinic that gives her the gratification of knowing that she is making a real difference in the lives of people in need. Her best friend Kara volunteers with her each Saturday. After an armed robbery roughly one year ago, Simon Hudson, Kara’s fiancé and co-owner of Hudson Corporation, donated security detail to ensure Kara and Maddie’s safety in the less than ideal neighborhood that is home to the clinic. Fortunately, she can now burn the midnight oil at the clinic without undue worrying about her safety when she locks up and walks to her car at the end of the day.Sam Hudson, mid thirties, is routinely written about in the business section and pictured in the gossip columns alongside a string of statuesque blonde beauties. The handsome and charming billionaire bachelor is the face of the Hudson Corporation. Under his leadership, he took his brother Simon’s brilliant games and brought them to market. He then took that success and diversified the company, branching out into real estate investments among other things. Despite what the newspapers and online gossip sites report, Sam isn’t quite the player he is made out to be. He wasn’t raised with privilege, and in spite of his cocky alpha persona, he isn’t completely lost to his newfound wealth. He had a rough childhood, and it impacts him yet today. When he was old enough, he had left home and moved to Tampa to get away from the rough Los Angeles neighborhood he had called home. He had nothing when he got to Florida, but he labored in construction during the day and went to business school by night in the hopes of bringing his mother and younger brother Simon to Florida with him. Unfortunately, it hadn’t been soon enough to prevent Simon from nearly losing his life. The guilt plagued Sam, but he had done all he could to make things right. It came at a personal cost, though. A cost that shapes him yet today. When Maddie first learned that Kara’s fiancé was Simon Hudson, Sam Hudson’s brother, she could hardly hide her distaste. She hated Sam Hudson. He had lied to her, and what he did was unforgivable. She hated seeing all the photos of him and his dates over the years. Curiosity, though, had won out when it came to reading up on his successes. She wasn’t surprised by any of his achievements, but clearly the success had gone to his head. When Sam discovers through Kara that Maddie made it through medical school and runs her own clinic, he is happy to learn about her achievements. What he doesn’t understand is why she never married. Consumed by her safety following the robbery, he has the Hudson security detail give him updates on Maddie’s activity at the clinic. He observes that Maddie is working too many hours for her own good, and eventually he cannot sit by and watch her work herself to death. Her fiery reaction does nothing to dissuade his interest, much to her chagrin.Sam and Maddie might have fallen in love at first sight all those yeas ago, but they hadn’t rushed into anything. A friendship eventually led to a relationship. It all seemed perfect, until it wasn’t. Brought together again by Simon and Kara, Sam and Maddie have to deal with one another on occasion. But things were left unsaid between them, and a serious conversation is inevitable. As they get to know one another again, there is hope for a future. They are challenged, though. Sam’s past still has a hold on him, and Maddie’s self-confidence has never recovered from Sam and Lance, her college boyfriend. And when she finds herself suddenly the object of attention of Sam’s billionaire friend and business partner, widower Max Hamilton, she cannot help but feel a connection to him. Both Sam and Maddie have a tough exterior, and both suffer from a past that has left them lonely. Their story gets deep and emotional as they work through their issues. The couple eventually earns their happy ending.Sam and Maddie’s emotional story of second chances shows that success doesn’t buy happiness. This quick read is nicely written. The plot is somewhat complex. The characters are wonderfully developed given the length. Sam and Maddie both have a compelling story, each afraid of becoming vulnerable. The story is written in third person. The POV alternates between Maddie and Sam. I rate this book 4.5 stars.I received a copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Good Contemporary Romance
This is a good romance, and wow it is hot! I liked both Sam and Maddie, and was glad that they were able to rekindle their romance of years before.I liked that Sam had been willing to give Maddie up years before, just to protect her. He hated hurting her, but couldn't protect her from the bad guys he was trying to bring down. It hurt him badly to do that, both for his own loss and for her pain -- but he did it anyway. I also liked that Maddie believed him when he finally told her why he had hurt her, and forgave him almost immediately.I did think that Sam was a bit too much of a caveman in how he dealt with Maddie, but she handled it well, and could usually talk him into being a little less controlling. His controlling behavior irritated her, but she knew that it came from protectiveness for the woman he loved -- so she put up with it.There was one other issue, and it is minor, but it is a pet peeve of mine – The inside cover of this book did not match the description of Sam. He was described as having blonde, curly hair -- but the man on the inside cover has red hair. This may not be the author’s fault, and it did not affect my rating, but it still bugs me.My rating system is below.1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Sam is a very possessive man and his love of Maddie has not diminished in all the time they were separated by necessity. Maddie and Sam have many issues to resolve before they can come together.

Future: people go on to become ? when suddenly the past that broke hearys is in your face... What to do? Go for it if you're still interested, marrying a billionaire could have great advantages...read Sam and Maddies story, if you are reading the series, you already know the characters. Makes one miss the stamina of being their age. Sex and sex and sex for desert, that stamina. Did I mention sex? Don't worry they will remind you.

A beautiful story
I have just read this again, having reread Simon's story and been reminded of the chemistry between Sam and Maddie. It's a great love story, exploring the depth of what someone might do to keep someone they care for/ love safe. The main characters have both faced difficult times in the past, including the thing that shattered them both. Sam is determined to get his way and put the past behind him. Maddie is desperate to help people get the medical care that they need, but can't escape her feelings for Sam. The side story with Max adds another layer of interest. I loved the glimpses of Simon and Kara, their wedding day was fantastic and Simon giving Sam advice about Maddie was wonderful each time.

A ROMANTIC READ
Sam and Maddie were first introduced in The Billionaire's Obsession: The Complete Collection Boxed Set (Mine For Tonight, Mine For Now, Mine Forever, Mine Completely) . It was obvious reading that series, that there was history between Maddie and Sam. Not good history either. This is their story beautifully written as usual by this author. The prologue lays out this couples history, and the reason for Maddie's dislike and distrust of Sam Hudson. Maddie is not happy to be around Sam, but as her best friend Kara is connected to Simon, Sam's younger brother, meeting with Sam is becoming unavoidable. Sam and Simon are two of the richest men in the world running their own large company. Maddie is a doctor, and works for free at a clinic for the poor. Staying late at night at the clinic still working. Alerted to this situation as his brother has installed the security on the building, Sam decides to pay Maddie a visit, he's not happy she's there after dark. As the clinic is located in an unsavoury area. When he enters he finds Maddie asleep at her desk. Unable to rouse her he carries out out to his car, and takes her home. But not to her home, his! He puts the still sleeping Maddie in his bed, and climbs in with her. He knows what her reaction will be when she wakes. But he's decided he wants her, he always has, and he's waited long enough. But how will Maddie react in the morning.Another great read from this author. I liked the tension between Sam and Maddie. It was a slow burn. The love scenes while hot, I thought were not quite as erotic, as I would normally expect from this author. But they were more passionate and sensuous this time round. That really worked here with this couple, considering their past history. Kara and Simon are also featured, as well as a new and interesting character called Max. He gets his own story next. A recommended read. The Billionaire's Obsession: The Complete Collection Boxed Set (Mine For Tonight, Mine For Now, Mine Forever, Mine Completely)

Lost Love
I have only read the first book in the Billionaire series about Simon and Kara. I did intend to read the other books but thought they were a bit expensive for such short books.Sam the hero of this book is the brother of Simon. He is a billionaire but when he was younger, he met a girl called Maddie and they had an intense romantic relationship but although Maddie wanted to, Sam wouldn't consumate the relationship then Maddie witnessed something that then caused their breakup and she never saw Sam again.Years later Sam and Maddie have met again through Simon and Kara. From reading this book, there is some history in the previous books so it may be a good idea to have read them first. It's obvious Sam still has feelings for Maddie and he can see she is overworked and tired from her job as a Doctor, so he offers her a proposition whereby she will be able to work exclusively at the Clinic where she has been volunteering.Maddie had never got over Sam or the hurt he caused her. She is 34 and has only had one other relationship. Sam has a reputation as a man-whore. Spending more time together the old feelings resurface. There are a few secrets to come out along the way but this was a good love story and Sam redeems himself along the way. I am intrigued by the new character of Max and look forward to his story next.

Excellent
This is book two of the Billionaire's ObsessionMeet billionaire Sam Hudson. Sam has pretty much lived his life quietly with no apologies becauseSam tries never to do anything that makes him sorry about. Apart from the expectation for what he had done in the past to the lovely Dr. Madeline Reynolds. Many, many years and regrets gone by. Sam suddenly meets up with Maddie again but only by chance. Sam's brother Simon is marrying Maddie’s best friend Kara and the two of them are forced to be civil to each other. Sam wants so more than be more than polite. Sam wants another chance to make things right between him and Maddie. So Sam offers Maddie a bold very proposition. It's an offer Sam knows Maddie will have a very hard time declining. Even though Maddie hates Sam.The lovely Dr. Madeline Reynolds. Madeline adores her best friend Kara and Kara's fiancé Simon, but being forced into the dreaded company of Sam Hudson. Both Sam and Maddie are apart of Simon and Kara’s wedding. It is pure torture for Maddie. Maddie’s hated Sam for years, but when he suddenly offers Maddie a bargain. A bargain that is near and dear to her heart, she’s torn between her dislike for the man. Or the offer of something Maddie’s always desperately wanted. Once, Sam Hudson nearly destroyed her. Maddie has since discovered that sometimes things aren’t always what they appear to be. Does Sam really a devious heart-breaker? Or is there something more to Sam than what's beneath the surface? Can two people with so many years of hurt between them learn to trust each other again?I love J.S Scott her books are brilliant and i could do with more than 5*s

A good read
A good storyline. Sam and Maddie’s story. A sad story which reveals the reason why Sam did what he did to Maddie to make her hate him and when they eventually get together she finds out his sad story. There is a really big twist to the story that was unexpected. The only downside to the story is the anal sex, which is a great turn off for me hence the 4* and not sure i want to carry on with Max’s story as it sounds like, from the excerpt, that it is going to be much the same. Such a shame.
