This globe is a big hit with my grandkids who enjoy studying the globe and locating countries they have heard about in the news, or read about in their history and geography classes. The details and relief are clear and legible, and the illumination is bright and beautiful. The globe operates on 4-AAA batteries which are included. Also included is a magnifying glass for viewing small countries and islands. The globe is plastic. The base is metal with a chromed finish and is very stable. The globe can be made to spin more freely by adjusting the set screw on top of the arm that holds the globe. A rocker switch built into the base makes it easy and convenient to turn the globe on and off. This is a really nice globe. The size is perfect for a desk, small table, nightstand, or pedestal, and I highly recommend it.

I bought as an gift for my kids 5th birthday. The globe is so informative and provides good knowledge to everyone to learn maps. The rotary function of the globe is nice to have as my kid loved by keep rotating and searching for countries and states.Pros:1. Good for day & night use.2. USB for night light is great and can be plugged directly to the outlet.3. Perfect for office or personal use. More or less, i enjoyed a lot by playing with my kid.4. Easy to operate and provide more knowledge on constellations which i learned through this globe.Cons:1. A bigger size globe would have been perfect size2. The magnifier is good, but not much helpful in reality as watching through the magnifier becomes painful and stress to eyes.I think its a perfect gift for any kids over 8+ as my kid finds most of the times difficulty in finding the countries as the size of the letters are small. But, its an wonderful educational toy that helps your kids to brain storm and understand the geography.

Got this as a small gift for a neighbor's kid that looked after our pets. Hard to describe the size. Smaller than a volleyball, but bigger than a softball. Kind of like a good size honeydew melon. :-) Anyway, I did a check of the actual contents on the map, and though the map is hand-drawn (for which I removed a star as some of the borders are slightly off, but not bad), all the countries are included (as of this review). It also shows US States and Canadian Provinces correctly. Lastly, the box included 4 AAA batteries and the globe holds a rather bright LED light inside that allows it to easily be read in the dark, or used as a cool nightlight. Either way, a fun addition to a kids room and something to reference on occasion. Glad I bought it.

I love this planet model! The color is very brilliant and the glossy finish is amazing. This item came very well packaged and does include the batteries. Easy to install and no need of power cord. Perfect for your office or your kids room. Very easy to read the names of the countries. The second picture is when is on and not using flash.

I bought this to give as a gift to another family, but my husband took one look and said "No Way". HE wants it! It is really a beautiful item. The details are crisp and clear, and up to date. As an amateur radio operator, he knows all the latest names of countries and he kept saying "Wow! They even got this right!"It is much smaller than a typical classroom globe, but of course it is eight inches and that IS smaller. But it is amazing how much detail is there without it being overwhelming. It is quite bright when it is turned on. The colors are bright and happy, on or off. It takes four AAA batteries, included. What a wonderful little treasure!

Another great globe.I am amazed at how bright this globe is for battery operation.My grandkids love it.It has a magifying glass so they can view it bigger like little detectives lol.I love the fact that it came with batteries included and it is very high goss.All the locations are accurate and it spins nicely.A perfect globe for anywhere really.It make a nice night light as well.I am very pleased with this order.My image is of it lit up so hoping the photo came out ok.

My young grandkids loved getting this globe. We put batteries in and they were so happy. The globe is perfect for kids but I will get them a more detailed globe when they are older. For example, in Washington State, this globe shows only where the city of Spokane is. Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue or Vancouver, etc, are not shown.

This globe was pretty cool when we first put it in our 6 year old son's room. However, the light stopped working after about 4 months and I have no idea if or how it can be replaced. It is still cool to look at even if the light doesn't work. Not sure it would be a good pick for a night light though. Others have said it is pretty bright for a night light too and it definitely was bright.
