Q: Could this battery allow for a 2 hour videotaping?

I've never tried taking movies anywhere close to that long with my Sony Cyber-shot camera (the one that uses this battery). However, based on my experience with shorter movies I would be very doubtful this battery would approach anything close to 2 hours of continuous movie taking.

Q: do you have to charge this battery when you get is new?

Most likely you have to charge the new battery first before you can use it. These type of rechargeable slowly discharge themselves even if it is not used. The fully charged battery usually depletes in several months. The new battery may or may not have some charge left, depending how long it has been on the shelf. Also, it is recommended to fully charge the new battery before the first use.

Q: Can the np-bg1 be used in place of the np-fg1?

Yes, BG1 is identical to FG1 for most Sony cameras, except very few models that gives more info about battery status with the FG1.

Q: is this a real sony rechargeable battery? NP-BG1?

Yes, it was a OEM Sony battery. However, it must have been old because it won't hold a charge as long as the one I already had. This was very dissapointing.
