While about 30% less in price than healthmate, Healthmate is 27% heavier, I assume that’s more charcoal. No real way for homeowner to know actual lifespan of filter. Fit is good. Funny Amazon quoted a week for free ship, $300 for 2 day (which is mnfg charge) arrived in 2 days anyways. I think it’s safe to assume weight difference is less charcoal which, what lessens effectiveness or life?

I purchased this to replace the filter in my Austin Air Healthmate Plus unit. I should have returned it before the 30 day period was up, because it does nothing for the smell of the room. The original filter completely took care of odors, but I felt it was time to replace it so I purchased this one because of the price difference. I wish I had spend the extra on the real thing. This just blows air out that smells exactly like the air in the room, only it seems to make it worse because it's actually blowing the air.

As recommended, we installed both pre-filters and then ran the unit on high. There were then a ton of white plastic fibers drifting around in our space, which was the opposite of useful, especially right now after the fires in LA when we can’t open windows to clear the air at all.We stopped it and switched the pre-filters so that the black carbon filter was on the outside (we could find no instruction anywhere on this, and the person we spoke to at Filter Monster had no idea) and it seems to have stopped spitting out fibers -? But there’s still a bunch of drifting particles.If you also receive both a white and a black pre-filter, either install with the black on the outside or leave the white out altogether.

I like that I do not need to replace it more often! Filtered air quite well!

I wanted to save some money on the replacement filter for my Austin Air. I decided to try this one. It is heavy, when you open the bag, there is a film of black powder on it. I think it is the charcoal. It fits just as well as the OEM filter and seems to be doing as good of a job. I am happy with it, and spent over $100 less than the cost of the oem.

It has a bad smell to it. Not at all good for people with breathing problems. The genuine filters do not have this smell, guess I will need to shell out the cash for those.

Filter died after 5 months and seller is unresponsive over Amazon. I contacted the seller directly and they said I could only message through amazon. Do not buy this filter, does not last. I am very sensitive to Chemicals and mold and that is how I know its dead.
