A season full of twists (Prior Season Spoilers)
Season 5 picks up immediately after the point where Season 4 faded to black, with Iris and Barry's daughter, Nora, revealing her identity. The season is in part a story involving why she came back from the future, and the inevitable consequences of it, the fallout of the events of the Enlightenment, including one of the season's "big bads", Cicada, played by American Pie Alum Chris Klein, dealing with the events of this season's crossover, Elseworlds, and setting up next season's crossover which is tied to Barry's disappearance which has been teased throughout the run of the series. Given how much the show had to pack in, the writers did a good job balancing the various storylines and giving each of the characters meaningful arcs. Really, the only character that was on the back burner for much of the season was Joe West, but that was largely due to a real-life injury that Jesse Martin was dealing with.About 1/3 of the way through the season the big crossover event, this time just involving Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow (although Legends was briefly represented) occurs. While it did have its own self-contained story, it was largely a set-up for next season's crossover, which will span 5 shows (Supergirl, Batwoman, Flash, Arrow, and Legends) and include many different cameos and characters. The crossover did serve as a mini-pilot episode for Batwoman, and firmly establish that the show Smallville is a part of the Arrowverse/Flash multi-verse.Also of note, the show's 100th episode occurs this season and makes use of time travel to revisit some of the big moments from season's past and allow for some old characters to make appearances. It was a great way to highlight the show's past and set up the story for the rest of the season. I will not say too much about the overall plot, but I will say there are quite a few twists along the way, some that are easy to spot, others not so much so that the show ends up in a much different place at the end of the season than where the writers seemingly wanted viewers to think it was going. For those who get the blu-rays, the "Flash specific" extras include deleted scenes, a gag reel, and a killer frost featurette. The other bonus features are the same that were included on the sets for the other shows including the highlights from comic-con for all the DC comic shows, an inside the crossover feature, and a feature on the DC comic villains (which was also included on the Gotham season 5 set). And, the blu-rays finally were released with a true "play all" feature that allowed you to pick up exactly where you left off when restarting the disc. Overall, I would say if you have enjoyed the prior seasons of the show you will likely enjoy this one. On the other hand, if you are not a big fan of the show, this season is not likely to change your mind.

Another hit from DC/the CW
I have been a big fan of the superhero shows put out by DC and The CW for several years now. Marvel certainly owns the big screen, but when it comes to weekly episodic TV, DC has really had a great assortment of stories. The Arrow was a bit dark at times , but I have really enjoyed The Flash, which featured well balanced stories. The cast really works well together, and I have really enjoyed the guest stars who come in for one episode or return as a recurring character. If you were one who watched the the CBS Flash series from a while back, you'll likely recognize some familiar faces.Season Five is certainly no exception. Its a terrific arc featuring a speedster from the future who comes in search of our main character, Barry Allen. There's a lot of fun moments, with just enough heart. So glad to own this set, which not only came with the discs, but a code so that you can enjoy each one of the episodes on the digital Vudu service. A great value for comic book fans everywhere !

Still going strong...
The Flash is still the hands down BEST of the CW shows. The show gets the true nature of the Flash, and the larger universe without sucking the PC/SJW tit. A rare thing these days. I can only hope it will stay that way.
