Great tool - did exactly what i needed it to do.
Quickly put, great tool that saved me a ton of money . The bolts could probably be of better quality, but i think as long as you don't use an impact gun you shouldn't have an issue. Frankly you could also run to the hardware store and pick up two heavy duty bolts as replacements. Something else to mention, clean the hole in the cam that the bolt goes into. I took carb cleaner and sprayed it inside and then took a q-tip and cleaned inside so the bolt would thread in smoothly. The only other thing was where the bolts slide into the extension pieces there were little metal tabs (from manufacturing?) and initially the bolts won't go all the way through, i took a thin flat end and with a hammer tapped the tabs off. Worked fine after that. Other than those two minor things the tool worked perfectly, kept everything firmly in place and for >$50 not sure i could ask for more. Look below for a larger review. My car: 2004 Volvo V40 1.9 (base wagon)The issue: P0017 - and randomly P0023. Car started, ran, drove perfectly but would all ways get these codes, and in the my state you fail inspection with the CEL on.Last year i sunk around $400 into swapping out sensors, cam, crank, CMP, checked timing, a bunch of ECM diagnostics and concluded the cam gears must be off...maybe a tooth maybe 2? Took apart to check and set correctly, went to set timing and what a major pain in the neck to do so. I can't count how many times i had it just right and i would go to tighten down the tensioner and one or both cam gears would spring free. Short of the long, i got everything back together but the codes still persisted. Before my inspection was due, I found out that if i spent more than $400 on trying to fix my CEL issue i could get an exemption for my inspection. Great, i had another year to figure out what was wrong with my car. This year, I knew that i would need to do a timing belt change and i wanted to get the codes cleared and the engine timed correctly. So i bought this tool - holy cow it was awesome! You will need to clear away a lot of the wiring and hoses to get the tool in place but once done your job is that much easier. The cams stay perfectly still, you can even loosen the bolts (front side) a little bit to give you play when putting on the new timing belt.It took me about 4 hours to complete the job (including cleanup), by the end i installed a new belt, tensioner, water pump etc and didn't once have to worry that the cams had shifted. With the tool off (do this after you set tension so you can do two full rotations of the engine to check)covers back in place i started the car. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. When i was initially getting the tool in place i could tell at that time that the exhaust cam was advanced one tooth (CVT mark was off by previous owner) but i only could tell that because the tool only locks in place when both cams are oriented correctly. So, to get the tool in place i removed the belt and turned the exhaust cam to the correct angle, after which the tool fit in correctly. As of now my CEL is still off, the car runs great and i'm good for another 80-100k before i'll need to do anything with the timing belt. Not sure i can say anything else but i won't ever do a timing belt change without this type of tool again. Just awesome!

Cam lock on a budget
This review is based off of a one time use of this tool. Haven't had it for long and the amount of volvo I've done I have never needed the cam lock tool.Only reason I needed it this time was to remove the hydraulic cam pulley. And I probably won't being using it any time soon, possible never again. The tool appears to be made of a steel alloy. Not sure on that, just how it looks and feels. It does feel durable and that it'll withstand being used over and over again. You have the main bulk of the tool along with 2 additional adapters that are extended legs. As well as 4 bolts, 2 short ones to use with the main tool and 2 longer bolts when using the adapters. There's a another bolt the locks both of the main tool together and a top piece that hooks onto the engine I believe. The legs on the tool,on each side, has a key way that sticks out. This aligns with the slots on the cams. The adapters have both, the key way and the slots. When using the adapters, you'll notice that the slots on them are a bit off center. Fit them one way on the tool, they'll sit a bit off, not being straight in line with the tool. Fit them the other way and they'll be straight in line. Between using the adapters with the main tool. They did not sit flush together. There was a bit of a gap. But, in no way did this cause the tool not to work. I had no problem with it holding.Though I've seen the factory tool I do not remember if this was the same with them since it's been years since I've seen the factory tool. There is two treaded holes on the tool that are used to lock the tool together. Short and long length. I had to use the short length. And I did not have a problem getting the bolt hand started in the treads when the tool was set into the cams. I've read a few reviews that had this problem. Possible they had the tool set up wrong? I do recommend using washers between the tool and the bolt head. Which doesn't come with the tool and washers aren't that much. Unless you work as a professional. Than it cost you nothing, cause the shop already has them! For a one time use. It worked without a hitch. And the price isn't that bad, unlike another tool I bought that was a one time use. Sometimes, that's just the way it goes when needing a special tool.

Works like a champ
I am so glad that I decided to get this tool and not pay more for the other brand. This tool does not come in a plastic box which is fine for me. Some people have complained that the tool does not fit tightly and they were worried about doing the job. When you look a the tool the round part that attaches to the back of the cam has two notches. If you notice the notches are slightly different in size and shape. If you put your tool on the back of the cam and it dose not fit well then you have the round part 180 degrees off and it needs to be flipped. If the tool is on correctly you should not have any problems. It really is a nice tool at an inexpesive price.
