A light read with good tips to think about
This was an easy read. And most importantly the author assures us that our thoughts and concerns regarding retirement are not unique. She offers some great exercises and tips for how to transition into that part of life.

Great for pre-retirement planning & post check-in
Retired 1 yr ago from a 32 yr exciting and fulfilling corporate career. Months before my selected retirement date I was having a hard time defining what activities I would do to replace my 40-60 hrs/week working. This book has many solutions and makes you think seriously about the emotional needs and changes before and after retirement. I made a plan, implemented it and am fully enjoying being my own boss, having my business, doing what I want! Freedom is priceless.

Not helpful for many (2.5*s)
If one is in the midst of retirement and really struggling with it, this is not your book. On the other hand, if one is fifty-something, secure financially, doing fairly high-level work, interconnected socially, and the like, then this is directed to you. But it is also unnecessary. Such people often continue to work part time, have a network of family and friends, take trips to Europe, and generally stay busy and happy. The only concern is what new restaurant to try.The author absolutely does not address retirees who have not had the advantages of upper middle class work lives. Money may be in scarce supply. Jobs may well have not produced a robust collection of friends nor are translatable into work after retirement. There could easily be the absence of family to fall back on.The first group slides right into retirement with few issues. The second group must find a way to bootstrap themselves into happiness. One suspects there is a sizeable number of retirees who just cannot do that and are forced to deal with diminished lives. Simplistic suggestions that are not realistically obtainable are not helpful.

Really explained the psychological aspects of retiring
I've seen so many books about the financial aspect of retirement, but not many about how you feel about not going to work every day. This book had so many ideas and was so helpful in adjusting my thinking about retirement and what I should be (or not be) doing all day. I though it was really helpful.

Good for those planning on retiring in the next few years
This book is good for even those who plan on retiring in a few years. I bought for my sister that just retired and she really enjoyed this book.
