If you work with fiber you *must* keep one of these with you at all times - find religion and use it 100% of the time
If you work with fiber you *need* to have a Cletop with you at all times. Fiber is sensitive to dust and oil from your fingers that you can not see. Single mode is *especially* sensitive. As a rule, I clean fiber 100% of the time when I disconnect and reconnect it - even on brand new factory jumpers! If you have ever used a "fiber scope" to see the end of a connector face you will understand why this is so important. It is a fantastic learning tool if you ever get the chance to use one."Type B" means that the window that opens when you depress the button is a full open rectangle and you can utilize any part of the cleaning tape surface. It is intended for duplex LC connectors, where the type "A" is intended for SC style connectors (among others). Really though, the Type A just blocks you from using some of the cleaning surface, so I use the Type B ones for everything now as I switch from LC to SC constantly and don't want to carry two units.Then the "White" tape is designed for 1.25 mm ferrules (LC) vs the Blue which is intended for 2.5 mm ferrules (SC, others). It does not really matter, you can use either type of tape for either one. The blue is just a little more "rough" and perhaps harder to slide a 1.25 mm ferrule on. So I just always use White. Makes my life simpler. ;-)I should also note that the old school "standard" Cletop units (not the -S models) are built from a harder plastic that is probably more durable. These ones are kind of cheap thin plastic. My fleet is of the -S units as I assumed they were the way of the future, but they still seem to sell the old ones and cleaning tape and so I am tempted to switch. Maybe loading the tape is harder since it is not in a nice packaged cartridge in the old ones? I am constantly dropping these things and having them pop open and go everywhere. I don't think I have destroyed one yet permanently, but it is lame. The upside to the new Cletop-S units though is that they are good for either left or right handed folks. I am a Righty so no issues either way for me.
