Terrible for intuition
I own this textbook having bought it from elsewhere and it is easily the most convoluted, least intuitive, and poorly motivated textbook I have ever used. It is nearly 700 pages filled with nonsense material that does an exceptionally poor job of preparing you to solve or even begin to understand most of the problems that it posits. It is exceptionally frustrating when an undergraduate level text that is a 3rd of the size of this book does a significantly better job of motivating the theory of stochastic processes (the keyword being *theory*... I mean come on, this is a graduate level text, you would think that it does a better job with that at least). I would understand if this could be used as a reference text with more rigorous proofs but it simply cannot be. You will find yourself spending more time jumping between chapters and reading other textbooks than actually reading this and understanding its content.I understand that textbook writing is a challenging process on a good day but the fact that this text fails at even the basic function of reference is beyond me. Your money is better spent elsewhere... Better yet get a PDF if you really must.
