Amazing, easy to use book.
I could (and have) just read this for hours, it walks through each step of each project in such detail, tells you what tools you need, and shows you new techniques you can use elsewhere in your practice. It's a great gift for someone who is doing hand-building from home!

Detailed instructions and lots of easy to understand photos plus basic tools
This is a gorgeous book that contains a wealth of knowledge. I love that the author breaks down the basics in the introduction. She goes over each of the different types of clay and their advantages and disadvantages. Then she goes over the basic tools and equipment that you will need to do pinch pottery. After that she goes over core making techniques of how to make a classic pinch pot, how to join it, and how to make a basic cylinder.I have been doing ceramics for over 8 years. And I learned quite a bit in this book. Different ways to use tools and clever techniques that will make things easier for me in the future. Examples of projects in this book are cereal bowl, fruit bowl, teapot, teacup, birds, utensil handles, a pinecone, and decorative arts such as a tea light container and a Piggy Bank. She also goes over glazes, decoration on clay and colored slip which I thought was very interesting. I like the detailed instructions and the massive amount of pictures which show exactly how to do each step. The only things you need are: time, clay and practice. The tools are generally basic so this is a good book for someone who does not have a wheel or fancy equipment. I like how she gives you really good ideas and inspiration to make your own crafts using the pinch method. This book is inspiring as well as beautiful. This is a keeper that I will store in my reference collection and will use over and over again. You will not regret purchasing this wonderful book.

No kiln necessary - projects are adaptable
I am so thankful for this book. I love ceramics/clay and pottery but wheel throwing causes more stress than enjoyment so I much prefer hand-building methods. I started experimenting with air-dry clay during the pandemic quarantine of 2020 just experimenting on my own. After reading 'Pinch Your Pottery' I learned so many techniques that I wish I knew earlier, such as how to join 2 pieces together to make a hollow, rounded shape. Previously I had tried sculpting around various armatures but my clay would always crack or be too thick in places. I have found that most of the projects in the book can be adapted to your own tastes/styles. For instance, there is a tutorial on how to make s bird shaped egg cup which could be adapted to any other animal or character; what's important is the techniques that Jacqui Atkin is sharing and she does an excellent job. I was able to use some of the techniques in this book to sculpt a tooth statue - my first substantial project. This book was intended for artists who have access to a kiln and studio pottery but I found tremendous value in it as someone who works with air-dry clay and paper mache.I would also like to note that the book itself is very beautiful. The pages are thick with lots of full-color photos. It displays like a nice coffee table book. I really appreciate that there are lots of photos of Ms. Atkins' "worker hands" that remind me expertise comes with age and it is a gift to be able to work with my hands as I get older.
