safe for sensitive eyes
Looking for an eyeliner that scores "in the green" on EWG's Skin Deep Database and found this brandAlmay All-Day Intense Gel Eyeliner. I have super-sensitive eyes and will have an allergic reaction to most eye make-up but have never had a problem with Almay eyeshadows or liners. Love the texture, color and staying power. It does smudge a bit on the lower lid but once the edges are cleaned up, it stays put all day without further smudging. It does require a sharpener. Sharpens easily with Revlon's sharpener for all pencils (plastic/wood). "140 Deep Chestnut"=dark brown (but not too dark)

I really like this eye liner. It goes on easy and smooth. Great color too.

Requires Revlon Universal pencil sharpener sold separately
I have purchased the Almay Gel Liner multiple times. Overall, it is a great eyeliner. It goes on well and stays on without smudging. It is also easy to remove with eye makeup remover. Also, it is EWG verified. That said, I gave it 4 stars for two reasons. First, it contains some glitter which isn’t too noticeable but the glitter is difficult to remove. Even after I take off the eyeliner, there is still some glitter at the base of my eyelashes. Second, you need to purchase the Revlon Universal pencil sharpener because the outside casing on this pencil is plastic and regular eyeliner pencil sharpeners will not work. I’ve noticed that after I’ve used it a while and sharpened it down to about half of its original length, it seems to be a bit drier and harder to get a smooth line. So I end up tossing the last half of it. Thankfully, it is not very expensive, but I do not like wasting it.

Goes on easy and stays on all day!
I don’t usually write reviews, but I had to because I absolutely LOVE this eyeliner!! I was having an issue with other eyeliners not going on my lids at all or actually erasing the line I just drew on my eyelids. This eyeliner goes on smooth, doesn’t erase the line I’m going over (for a darker line) AND stays on all day without smudging!I’ve also had issues with other “waterproof” eyeliners rubbing off on my upper eyelid, leaving an unattractive line, but this eyeliner does not!If you like a brownish-black eyeliner, the Chestnut color goes on light, but transforms into a deeper brown with more coats. Be careful how much pressure you use because it is a gel eyeliner, which makes it a bit softer and breaks off if you’re not gentle. Another awesome feature is that it washes off easily with a regular face wash.I highly recommend this eyeliner!

Gel liner works well.
Works very well but there is only a small amount of product in the stick. Not worth the money.

worse than one star
If I could give this a negative rating, I would. What I got is not the product in the amazon picture. My liner crayon came in a plastic tube with no way to advance the crayon. Furthermore, when I put the cap on the back of the liner to hold it, and then took it off again, it took the end piece off with it. Now the end piece is lodged in the cab and I can't even put the cap back on!It's not possible to sharpen this liner because it would require sharpening a plastic tube, and then the very soft crayon gel would mush in the attempt.I have no idea what's going on here except that maybe this company made a mistake and produced a bunch of lemons that can't be sharpened and then is just selling them off to suckers. At $7 + some change, it's too cheap to try to get a refund, so just listen to my warning. I saw another warning of the same thing. And actually, if I DID get the kind that could be sharpened, I can't imagine how sharpening would not rip off the very soft crayon material. The only reason I got this liner over the one I love from Palladio is that this one got a EWG certification and my dark brown Palladio liner is rated at a green # 2... Still very good for toxicity, but not as good as EWG certified.Going back to my favorite Palladio eyeliner. That one can be advanced by twisting the end, it's soft and creamy, and works wonderfully well.Buyer beware on this one!

You need to use a sharpener to get to the rest of the eyeliner in the pencil shaft
Ever since my cataract surgery I can't use the eyeliner I used to use so I've been searching for one that doesn't irritate my eyes. I love this one (blue color) but I thought I had received a defective one. The shaft of the pencil seemed to be plastic but I couldn't turn the white plastic tip at the bottom of the pencil to advance the eyeliner as I used it. I ordered another one -- same thing. So I called Almay and learned that the shaft is actually made of compressed paper and you need to use a sharpener to shave away the shaft, just like a wooden pencil. They sent me a free sharpener. Great product, lovely color, decent price now that I know how to sharpen it. You could probably use any eyeliner sharpener, you don't need their brand specifically, but I thought it was very generous of them to send me one. I suggested that they make it clearer on the package that you need to sharpen it to get to the rest of the product. She said it's on there but I don't see it and I see that a lot of other reviewers are also confused.

YES, IT CAN BE SHARPENED!
It only 'seems' to be made of hard plastic; you can definitely sharpen it if you have a decent, sharp, little pencil sharpener. I ordered this despite reading the reviews that complained that you can't sharpen it. When I lost the point, I thought I might as well give sharpening a go, and it sharpened right up. I read various on-line sites that listed Almay as having good hypoallergenic products, which is what I need. I am very glad that I purchased this and will be ordering it again.
