A bit more power is just what I needed!
This higher torque starter was just what my B&S 18.5 Hp V-Twin lawn tractor engine needed. I fried the replacement shorter version after only a couple of years. It never spun this engine like this longer, more powerful starter motor does. It is just what I was looking for to make my lawn tractor start easier. Sweet. Here's hoping it lasts a long time, too! Time will tell. The pictures show the starter installed. Making it fit is fairly simple. See the right angle in the heat shield below the starter. I had to modify the original part to accommodate this 1/2" longer starter. The shield is held on underneath by one hex screw, 5/16". A quarter-inch drive socket and ratchet will do that easily enough. Mark where to cut on the shield before removing it. Then hacksaw a 1/2" cut (+1/16" to be sure) in the shield and bend over and hammer down the resulting metal tab to make the clearance. Reinstalling the shield can be tedious, working underneath something without being able to directly see what you are doing. I use a mirror for that. That hack took me longer than installing the starter, with that one bolt up under the flywheel taking the most time to finger-tighten several turns before I could get an open-end wrench on it. Here's hoping for many years of quick and sure starts like I've never known.

Great price on a great starter
This starter is as good if not better than OEM, Save your money and buy this one, why pay more! It was a direct replace aftermarket starter what works perfectly. Local repair shop wanted $100+ for a used one, said they are rear, you can't buy them anywhere. I'm glad I did not listen to him, they are still common.I do recommend.
