Vinod Idli Dhokla Cookers - Premium Stainless Steel (Multi Cooker, 4 Tier)

Pros:I prefer this dhokla stand that does double duty as an idli stand to make idlis. It does not tilt and the spacing between layers is good. The risen idlis do not touch the plate above them. I have always had issues with regular idli stands that do not hold the pans level and have too little space between them. There are four layers and you get 16 medium sized idlis.For the lowest layer, which you have to tilt to get in, I place the empty greased idli plate and ladled the idli batter directly into the pan from above. The other three can be filled and then placed in the pan.The lowest dhokla pan has a lip and can be placed carefully after filling.I tested both sets of pans by making regular idlis and plate (Thattu idli) and both versions turned out great.The rack fits in the 6 qt instant pot with the glass lid.Cons:The bottoms of the feet are rough and can scratch the steel instant pot insert.

While this product appears sturdy, it unfortunately isn't, and that's not the main issue. The problem is that black spots consistently appear from the holes every time idlis are made, despite thorough cleaning before and after use. It's not worth the purchase price; it's quite disappointing.

The product works great, but makes a lot whistling noise which can wake up the entire house. Its easy to use, and cooks in 15 mins on a medium flame.

Someone suggested I buy just the idli insert and not the whole pan-idli combo. They said it was more cost effective and the pans sometimes lacked quality. So I ordered just the insert and hoped it would fir inside one of my pots. It fit inside the 8-quart stock pot. The only thing I did not like was that it was hard to grab the knob to pull it out of the stockpot, but then if the knob had been larger, there might be problems getting the pot cover to fit tightly. But the idlis turned out perfectly the first time!

We’ve played around to get right results, but original setup made way too loud a pitch scream when steaming (like kids had to leave the house). There just aren’t any specific product guides (either with the product at purchase or online).We’ve figured it out and had to adjust and have several failed batches before we did.

This idli stand can be used in 6 qt instant pot. I have a smaller version of this. This one can make 20 at a time. Easy to clean in dishwasher. Love it.
