I have a 75lb labrador retriever, he is 2 years old and has the energy and the pulling strength of a train. The countless times that he has taken off behind a squirrel and pulled this leash using all his strength, has made me eat dirt, but the leash has survived un-scratched! The grip hook is pretty good size, and the leash itself, even-though it looks thin, It is super strong!! We order the XL size with 26ft of leash that gives him enough room to be free without going too far. I feel this is the perfect length if you have a big dog. The lock mechanism is pretty good, can’t complaint. Overall very happy with my purchase. Labrador mom approved!

3 years in and I still love this leash. I use it daily and I bought another for my second dog. It is comfortable to hold, not heavy, easy to use, and really cute! If your dog is walking behind you the leash may get stuck but pulling on it with your hand fixes that. And the dog is meant to not be behind you anyways. I have tries so many retractable leash brands and I will never go back from Tug. I have used this leash with all sized dogs and it is perfect for all of them. I use it daily with my chihuahuas.

I have a 6 month old hyper active Shibu Inu pup. This leash works perfectly. Sufficiently length to let her run, a strong lock that is easy to flip on. And, it has very good gears to retract the line when needed. It fits like a hand grip so I can have my coffee in one hand, and the hyper Dog in the other!I give this leash 5 stars that are well earned. I love how strong this leash is and that, with the strap design (rather than a string), it never gets caught in bricks or other entanglements that have happened with other leashes. I also like how large the clamp is. It is very easy to clamp and unclamp with gloves on in the winter.My only complaint is that when the strap is pulled to the side it can get snagged in the reel. It is not hard to free it but it is annoying to have my dog run backwards for a moment and the have the leash go slack instead of reeling back in.Overall, I still give it five stars. It is well designed and the other retractable leashes I have used have many more issues.

I got the large size for walking both of my 70 pound Labs on one leash. It worked flawlessly, and the large handle it very comfortable. It retracts smoothly and quickly, and the locking mechanism works well, even with 2 large dogs.

Three reasons I'm writing this review:1. Giving my dog a good walk every day is non-negotiable.2. I use a leash every day, and IMHO, it's worth it to have proper equipment3. A leash is for your dog's safety and the safety of others who could be impacted by an off-leash dog. (I would never install a cheaply made seat belt in my car; why would I cheap out on a leash for my dog?)After using (and breaking or not being able to repair) several other retractable leashes, this is the first retractable leash I'm writing a review for. Here's what I appreciate:1. It's well-made and well-designed - sturdy handle, tough no-rip leash2. The "teeth" that prevent the leash from rolling and twisting when it retracts are brilliant. My last leash got tangled inside the housing, and I couldn't repair it without breaking the housing.3. If I need to fix it, it comes apart, and I could do the job myself instead of having to throw it away or buy a replacement.4. The locking mechanism consistently works - both the "lock" and "unlock" features.My dog is a 13-lb Shih Tzu-poodle. I used to walk her with a 6-foot leash, but she stops to mark at nearly every vertical object and a retractable leash allows me to keep my pace going, and she can catch up when she's ready.

Very durable, quality is up there. Way better than my other wind up leash. Works as it should…
