A helpful, down to earth, reassuring & inspiring book
Anya Hindmarch started her business as a teen and has gone on to create one of the most impressive, creative & fun brands around. In addition, she has set a wonderful model for building a warm, inclusive but professional business culture.I am a business founder & know how hard it can be to balance work, family & personal life. She shares honest insights which aren't sugar coated, yet her calm resolve, kindness, patience & determination shine through to make you understand a bit of how she manages it all, and it leaves one thinking, with the right sort of attitude & organisation skills, that we can do the same. It's also impressive, that after all of these years, she's lost none of her drive or passion & continues to create delightful, high quality products, concept stores and unique pop-ups which are oozing with wit and charm and get the customer involved, and joining along for the spirit-lifting fun ride. The down to earth insights make one realise that one doesn't always need MBAs or other deep initial experience to get something off the ground and flying if you have grit, creativity, determination, team spirit and the right attitude. Hats off to Anya. Read this book and learn a bit about the magic behind the scenes.

Starts well, fades a bit
I really enjoyed the first 80-odd pages of the book, and found myself thinking 'this author is a Wise Person'. Then suddenly the book seemed to swerve - from general observations and thinking, into a business book, which I wasn't expecting. Also, its business advice seemed to be not very follow-able unless you are cut from the same cloth as Anya, enjoying the organisation and execution of massive creative projects. I seem to have run across this problem before, that a book isn't too sure if it's a memoir or a how-to. As an aside - somehow I got halfway through the book thinking the author was another accessory designer altogether (Lulu Guinness! Don't ask me why I thought that!). However I do think Anya Hindmarch has a real talent for a good summing-up turn of phrase. The way she described her son's illness making life feel unreal was just one example of human feelings very well described. In general I think it's a good read.

brilliant woman, brilliant book
Anya Hindmarch is a genius and one of the nicest women on the planet. This witty, inspiring book is a masterclass on running a global business (handbags and much more) and making a difference in the world (I’m Not a Plastic Bag, Chubby Hearts over London and many more.)Unlike most business books, it is chock-full of anecdotes, humour, and Anya’s blazing love for her family.Anya’s remarkable work ethic and creativity are inspiring but not intimidating. Partly because she is modest about her successes, open about her difficulties and generous about her husband and the team who support her.Highly recommended.

A review for Anya
I think this must be the first review on anything I have ever written, though I felt compelled to write this even after a few pages down of the bookI currently own a Women’s Fashion Brand called Hope & Ivy, and have struggled to ever find someone on my wave length. Even though Anya’s experience is far beyond mine I found myself on nearly every page either making notes or having this overwhelming sense I was walking in similar footsteps and finally someone who understood.I am slightly dyslexic too, and strongly agree that I may not be able to find the time to sit and read long books or maybe be correct with my grammar. Though this book I was hooked and needed to read every single word.Hope & Ivy was souring Feb 2020, we were up 328% on the year souring towards our £6m target. Then the tap turned off, making Occasionwear and being so tied to events you can image our target market was pulled from under our feet. After a year of fighting and adapting we are back, and the bang is better and sweeter than we could ever imagine!!! This book has certainly coincided with this and now the energy we have to continue on feels great. With my copy I have put my Name and email on the inner page, then passed this onto another fashion entrepreneur I know. And in turn she will do the same and pass on. Creating a network of support if the next reader requires it. Maybe if my copy of the book ever gets back to Anya she would take the time to hold a talk for us all, maybe this will be my Conran shop moment. To all my fellow start up fashion entrepreneurs, buy this and read time and time again as you journey evolves through this ever changing landscapeThanks AnyaFromBeth Chilton - Hope & Ivy

If in doubt, buy this book
It's insightful and authentic and feel-good - and one of those books that you find yourself thinking about and quoting from regularly in all sorts of contexts, whether you're thinking about work or marriage or parenting (or shampoo...). I also found Anya's tone strangely calming, as if the fact that she'd been there and done that and written about her experiences made it safer for me to consider going there. Highly recommended; I wish I could have read it every so often since I was about 20.

Good read!
It was a most interesting read and a well written book by a very nice successful Essex girl.

Homely Advice
I'm halfway through this book now and have enjoyed it. Some of Anya's story could be pepped up with more actual real-life what she really went through narrative (a fair amount of the text is written in a remote 'remember to' or 'should do' manner, where, if she regaled me with the actual experiences I would be so much more interested). I did kinda' buy this book thinking it would be good for my 16-year old, artistic and maybe future entrepreneurial-minded daughter to read. I think she will really enjoy it and I certainly didn't hate it.
