Yes, but the fabric tends to be thin and very light weight. I found it also tended to be a series of the same prints in several colors, not the mix that is shown by the photo. Still, if you use Insul-Brite (as special batting meant for potholders and trivits that retards the transfer of heat) as well as a layer of cotton batting, it should work OK. But, frankly, if I were going to make gifts for people I cared about, I'd get better fabric.

I do not know the answer to that. Sheets are the only thread count I have ever seen listed.
