A better Zippo
This is a massive, massive improvement over a basic Zippo insert in several ways.First you've got the obvious wick cap, which greatly improves fuel retention. Built into this cap is a geared striker mechanism that gives you an extremely positive ignition with very little effort without ever contacting the rough striker wheel itself. This reduces skin oil and other buildup on the wheel which would otherwise eventually make it harder to light. Lastly, you've got an all-metal baseplate with a hinged and gasketed fill door to further reduce evaporation. The improved striker and baseplate are, quite frankly, what a Zippo should be. They're a massive improvement in function and quality. I understand if purists are put off by the wick cover, since it requires an extra step to close the lighter, but overall this is a major evolution of the form factor while still retaining compatibility with all standard Zippo maintenance parts.Fit: mine fits snug in the lighter case, as it should, and closes properly. One thing to note is that different Zippo cases tend to have very slightly different hinge alignments from the factory. I have sometimes found it is necessary to adjust the hinges for both this and other inserts (including official Zippo ones) to get a perfect closure. It's not a problem with the insert, it's a tolerance problem with the case. So don't be too surprised if your case has issues until you bend the hinge slightly.

Improvement Over Stock Insert With One Downside
I bought this insert in the hope that it would slow down the evaporation of fuel from my lighter. Zippos all suffer from fuel evaporation. This insert attempts to slow that evaporation using a few innovative additions. The Good:- Insert is well made of solid brass, not brass-colored aluminum- Fits well into standard and Armor Zippo-brand cases, along with many other Zippo-style cases- Wick cap works well to slow fuel evaporation and is unnoticeable in operation- Solid brass plug with fuel door has rubber o-rings to prevent fuel evaporation from bottom of lighter- Top of insert is ramped so that case cap closes securely, without any rattling- Insert slides in securely and fits more tightly than the stock Zippo insertThe Bad:- The screw cap that retains the flint and spring is exactly as shown in the images. It sticks out and cannot by screwed in any further. This makes the insert sit far higher in the case than normal and makes opening the case a bit stickier than a standard insert.

A Huge Improvement over the Original Zippo Lighter Insert !
My lighter fluid now lasts three weeks before I have to add more. Before the fluid would dry out in about a week. A big improvement! This is the way an improved Zippo Lighter should be designed. Maybe Zippo will offer a second model some day with these refinements to make the lighter fluid last longer. Till then, glad this imported insert exists. Operation is very smooth and the fit is perfect. Five Stars! Highly recommend!

Works great, hurts to use
The skin on my thumb felt raw after using this a few times. The teeth on the gears just dig into it

Some slight modifications recommended
This is a good lighter insert and a huge improvement on the zippo brand name inserts in many ways, but it requires some modification to be a truly great insert. Firstly, as others have said, there's not enough rayon inside the body (and it may actually just be cotton), which is easy enough to fix with some generic rayon balls, but the real problem is that the eyelit is far too small to thread a wick through. Just forget about it, it's far too small to be practical without specialized wicks and tooling. The best remedy for this is widening the eyelit with a 2.38mm (3/32in) drill bit, after which standard zippo wicks will slide through just like they would on a brand name zippo insert. Just make sure while you do this the drill bit is spinning clockwise, drilling from the outside of the insert into the body, so it doesn't unscrew the eyelit and pop the chimney cap springs out (which are a real pain to reseat). After widening the eyelit, replacing the wick, filling the body with rayon balls and refueling, this is a truly great lighter insert. The solid metal bottom is sealed with O rings, and this together with the chimney cap at the top greatly mitigates the evaporative leakage which plagues the brand name inserts. It fits snugly into my standard armored zippo case better than the original insert did. I wouldn't trade it for any other lighter. 100% worth the money and effort.

Lighter fluid lasts longer.
Seems to be well made. Adds a little heft to the zippo case. Holds fluid for about 3 weeks. Zippos generally hod fluid for about a week at most. Flame is a little smaller. Overall worth the price of 12$. Good value.

good design
Good design. The seals on the top and bottom really work. It took two months for the fuel to evaporate and need a refill.
