Yellow Mountain Imports Shin Kaya 1.6-Inch Reversible 19x19 / 13x13 Go Game Board (Goban)

First off, the packaging was very careful and everything arrived in pristine condition. The GO board is very nice with a 19 grid on one side and ane a13 grid on the other side. There is a very nice cloth case to keep it in for protection when you are not leaving it out. The GO pieces and their wooden containers are also very nicely crafted. Wereally searched for a nice quality yet affordable GO set and we are very pleased with this well made set. The reason there is no opinion on travel is that this type of GO board and pieces are not made for light traveling...however, there are straps with velcro ends to hold the lids securely onto the GO game pieces container, as well as cloth to cushion between the lid and container which would help moving them in a vehicle safely without too much trouble. The board is fairly thick and has some weight, but again it could be moved in vehicle without much trouble at all. The GO game just isn't a small in a box type game in itself. These GO products are highly recommended by us.

I'm giving this 5 stars because for about $100 dollars you won't find better. It looks nice and has a great feel. The board itself is flat and the packaging was sufficient for it to arrive free of damage. On the negative side, there are imperfections in the finish. A few small particles that must have gotten in when it was drying. I’m also not the biggest fan of the finish itself. However, these are nitpicking complaints. At this price point you have to expect some minor imperfections. If you are looking for a great table board in the $100 range you can’t beat this.If you have more money to burn and want perfection, look at 6 Brothers, Kiseido, etc.

All of the product images adn customer images showed a board that was just wood with lines on it, not painted yellow. The board the showed up is painted yellow with black lines. Pretty bummed about that... otherwise a nice board.

I am very happy with this board - it looks great !I think the amazon product pictures don't do it justice - the board looks a bit brownish on these - but the board I received does have the gorgeous yellowish wood color that's expected from shin kaya (same color as you would see on this other board 2 Inch Thick Shin Kaya Go Table Board (Goban))The board has a nice, shiny finish on both sides. It's thick enough and just looks amazing.

Beautiful board. carefully packaged. If you are looking for a functional work of art ,look no further. Highly recommended. Great company.

Several very prominent black blemishes on both sides of the board (see pictures) make it unacceptable, especially as a Christmas present. It can be perhaps sold to clubs at a discounted price as defective factory surplus but not as a new, in-the-box product. Sloppy manufacturing and poor quality control=>Returned. By the way, I have been a Yellow Mountain Imports customer for some years now and I have come to know that they are a hit-and-miss outfit, unfortunately: good prices but unreliable quality. Will edit this review after/if receiving an acceptable replacement. EDIT - Jan 22, 2020. - after returning three separate boards that all had some kind of distracting defect such as black blemishes, a long black line, a small hole, warping of the board, we gave up and asked for a refund. The wood is beautiful and dense but we concluded that you have to get lucky to get a clean looking board. For us, three strikes was just too much.

Overall really nice board. Was slightly disappointed it was made of 5 pieces of wood.
