An excellent mic that out-performs the price
For years, I used a couple of Beyer shotgun mics for filming which were brilliant. Of course, they were very expensive but `you get what you pay for'. When I looked for a new mic the budget didn't stretch to the £500 - £800 mark so decided to buy the Rode having been impressed with the brand in the past. I am not kidding, I prefer the Rode! It handles sound beautifully, is extremely directional while eliminating unwanted noise and performs faultlessly in many challenging conditions. Yes, there is handling noise so you have to be a little careful to mount it in such a way that this doesn't interfere with you recordings, but that's a small issue and common with more expensive products too. Comes with a foam sock, mount and ten year warranty...which is amazing when you think about the cost you're paying. I've always considered mics an inexact science as there are so many variables. But this Rode mic proves that broadcast quality is available for £150 and I would, without hesitation, buy another. Just a note...buy the NT2 if you can. For the small additional amount, the battery option gives true flexibility.

Great microphone
This is an excellent microphone, especially for its price! It's easily comparable to shotgun microphones at a higher price point. The noise floor level might not be as clean as a Sennheiser, but you are paying much more for those. You get a very nice leather pouch with it and a mount (not shockproofed) with a 3/4" screw thread. For low-budget creators, the NTG2 is a great option for capturing good quality, near-professional audio. Its directional pick-up pattern is spot on. For me, this is a market game-changer that will/has forced competitors to rethink the price point of their own microphones.

Quality sound
As a film maker I researched around on the web before I made the investment into my sound recording abilities. Of course there are many different mic's and other sound recording equipment on the web, but this was well worth the investment. What was important most of all when Purchasing a mic and recording unit was sound clarity. With the right settings you can virtually eliminate all of the background hiss with this mic. So all you get is just the voice audio with no extra unwanted sound. This product gets 5stars from me.IMPORTANT NOTE WITH SHOTGUN MIC'S:Shotgun mic's although very good only record in mono so you will need to tweak in post to bring it to the left and right channel or use the settings in the zoom H4n to record through both L&R.For the set up that I used:Recording device: Zoom H4nMic: RODE NTG2All I would say if you can afford to make the investment for both of these items it is well worth it :) happy film making guys.

Only Option
This is sort of a industry standard budget mic now. Everyone owns it or another in the series I can see why it is a good mic but it has its flaws. I have worked as a sound engineer for over ten years and I like this microphone in certain situations but then there are better mics too (although this is my go to mic now due to its price!).The mic has a bit of pick up from behind which can make it bad for indoors as it picks up some reflection, it's still acceptable and many other mics have this lobe effect so not a huge deal but something to think about. This mic has a very smooth sound without too much treble which I have found to be the case with the Audio Technica in the same price range. The only other mic I have heard which beats this one is the Sennheiser MKE600 which is only about £40 more. The Sennheiser has a power switch whereas the Rode NTG2 does not meaning to power it off you have to take it out of the mount/blimp you are using twist off the casing and take out the battery which is a bit annoying but I live with it. The Sennheiser has a low cut switch which the NTG2 does not and better overall sound quality. One thing I found with it though was it seemed to pick up interference worse than the NTG2 but I didn't test this theory, just experienced less overall using the sennheiser. The NTG2 is pretty much the only mic to buy around this price range that I really trust, go a bit more and get the Sennheiser if you can but the Rode is very nice and gives professional sounding results if you know what you are doing. The Audio Technica's seem to have too much sibilance and I would be worried about having to correct it all in the edit.

perfect, absolutely love this device!
amazing product, works well, comes with mic, clip mount with screw adaptor, foam branded sock, a nice case, a bit tight when the sock and clip is attached (i havent the space to leave the mic out all the time!) and a sticker and instructions. battery phantom power via aa battery or via phantom power, i use this as a backup mic alongside my main mic, and it is perfect, can not speak highly enough about this product, its perfect for what i needed.

Awesome - great value
Having never used a shotgun-mic like this, I was not sure what to expect as I have no professional standard reference. I popped an A4 battery in, connected to my new Zoom H6 and away I went. I was very happy with the combination! I'm sure there are better mics out there, but at a price point that was beyond my budget. This Rode hit the mark when reading the reviews and comparing the price/value and I have not been disappointed with the quality and accuracy of the sound.Very happy!

Great but better with a Fethead from Titon audio
As I am sure everyone who has bought one of these in the past, then I am going over old ground. Really good sound but you need to add a powerful pre amp or you won't get very loud sound from the NTG2, I use it with a Zoom H4n which hasn't got good pre amps, so I needed to add a fethed (triton audio) which gives you 20db of clean sound boost, this gives you the proper sound you should get from this mic. Superb audio quality only from Rode.
