The best sharpener I've ever used.
This knife sharpener is fantastic for the right kind of knife. I will go as far to say, it is probably the easiest to use and best knife sharpener I have ever used, and I've tried a few. I say for the right kind of knife because this sharpener is designed to sharpen Victorinox knives. Victorinox are a Swiss knife company ( best known for the Swiss army knife ). Western European kitchen knives as well as American kitchen knives are typically ground at an angle between 15° - 20°. Victorinox show in a YouTube video, their knives being sharpened at 20° and therefore this sharpener would be designed to sharpen at 20°. Japanese kitchen knives are typically ground between 10° - 15°, which makes the knife sharper but less durable and is why Japanese knives typically don't keep an edge as well as a good quality European knife and the edge is prone to chipping. With that in mind if you are looking for a knife sharpener to sharpen Japanese knives, or Japanese style knives this isn't the sharpener for you. You will need to look for a sharpener designed for Japanese knives ( some electric sharpeners have a Japanese knife setting on them ), or use a waterstone. As for the quality of the sharpener, Victorinox make quality knives, not only the Swiss army knife but professional butchers and fish mongers use Victorinox knives. It is also not uncommon to see Victorinox knives in professional kitchens, there is a limited listing of professional kitchen knives by Victorinox on Amazon. This sharpener is made to the same high standard as their knives. As far as ease of use and the effectiveness of the sharpener. It is easy to use, just hold the knife on the worktop with the blade facing upward. Place the sharpener over the blade by the bolster (handle end ) and applying some pressure on the sharpener pull it down towards the tip of the knife. Do this 3 or 4 times to put a razor sharp edge on the blade. Keep the angle of the sharpener low, I actually let the knuckle guard rest on the blade. If your knives are extremely blunt then repeat until you've got a nice sharp edge. After sharpening you can hone the knife on a steel or pull the sharpener down the blade a couple of times applying no pressure as per instructions on the rear of the packaging. I am currently saving for a set of Wusthof knives and wanted a sharpener to put an edge back on my cheapish set of kitchen knives. This sharpener not only put an edge back on them but they are now sharper than when I bought them and to be honest I wasn't disappointed with their sharpness when new.Warning: There is another Victorinox knife sharpener which looks identical to this but is smaller and cheaper. There are customer reviews on that sharpener saying that it actually made their kitchen knives blunt. That is because that sharpener is designed for utility knives. To make utility knives more durable they are ground at an angle of 25° so if you use it on a kitchen knife you will take the edge off rather than put an edge on. If you want a sharpener for kitchen knives this is the one you want. If you want a sharpener for utility knives such as pen knives or fishing knives the other sharpener is what you want.

Brutal and destructive
I wouldn't use this for sharpening knives, since it doesn't get them very sharp, but it does remove an awful lot of metal. However it turns out that it is quite good at putting an initial edge on big, blunt blades, like secateurs and metal-cutters, which you can then finish off with other sharpening methods. So although it doesn't do what it's supposed to do, it does something else quite well.
