Great chair.
Best I have ever had. I bought it 4 months ago I feel it is a good time to write a review after extensive use. As a tall person with a long back it is the only chair that seems to have been designed for people like me. Whereas other chairs force me to sit with a poor posture this one allows me to adjust the back (up and down), the headrest, the seat height and armrests to fit. It has a unique design to accommodate both sides of your body and encourages you to sit with a good posture.Hara even contacted me personally to check my height and weight to ensure that i was buying the right chair rather than just being happy with the sale and sending it out as most suppliers would readily do. It shows that they care about their customer service which is another reason I like their product. The chair is not cheap, but it is certainly worth the benefit to my spine and posture which I cannot put a price on.Update from May 2018: I would again like to praise Hara because of their customer service. After 3 years, the welding on the backrest tore out the steel from the supporting base tube causing the back rest to come away completely. I contacted Hara and a replacement was sent immediately and was heavier duty/reinforced and feels much sturdier.

I wouldn't willingly go back to the more usual sort of computer operator's chair
Update, March 2016: I have now been using this chair for more than two years. My usage continues close to all day, every day. No 'wear and tear' is apparent. I remain very happy with it.When I found this chair I was looking for one that was ergonomically good, with plenty of adjustment of the key heights and tilts. I wasn't necessarily looking for one that offered specific orthopaedic benefits, but I do sometimes get backache, so was open to anything that might help (beyond, of course, the specific adjustment features that I was looking for). The split seat and back concept was entirely new to me and I was very unsure about it. What a shame it would be if they were just a gimmick that I would soon get over and wish I had bought a more conventional design. So I found two pieces of foam, each approximately 140mm x 470mm and 35mm deep, and placed them on the seat of my long-time computer chair. I also tried setting them up vertically as back support. What a difference they made, both on the seat and the backrest. I wished I had four pieces of the foam, not just two; ordered a Hara chair without delay (well, OK, I did first visit the website of the European distributor in Bavaria, using Google to translate as necessary - the chairs are made in S Korea); and continued sitting on the two pieces of foam until the new chair arrived.I have now had the chair for four months and I remain very pleased with it. I work at home, so with computer use for both work and leisure the chair gets hours of use every day. It's difficult, though not impossible, to lounge in the chair, and that is probably a part of why it is orthopaedically good. Because the chair encourages me to sit 'properly', rather than lounge, I am also encouraged to get up and take the five minute break each hour that we know is also good for us.I wouldn't willingly now go back to the more usual sort of computer operator's chair. The number of different Hara Chair models and variations available is somewhat befuddling, so the day after ordering I was pleased to receive an e-mail from Brigitte in Bavaria enquiring my height and weight - to make sure I had ordered the correct model for me. She also gave me the opportunity to change my mind about the fabric covering. Then it was despatched. It took a week, but could be tracked across Europe on the carrier's website, and final delivery was by Parcel Force. Unfortunately, the total weight of the box, 27kg, is over the top for most carriers these days and the box arrived in a knocked-about state with a hole right through one side and an ominous noise inside. Even on my own doorstep the delivery man took no heed of the clearly marked 'This way up' instruction. The chair is self-assembly - easy; requiring no tools other than the Allen key and outsize spanner supplied - from, as I think I recall, seven pre-assembled components. The source of the ominous noise inside the box was the handle of the height adjuster, which had been broken in transit. An e-mail - attaching a couple of photographs - to Brigitte in Bavaria readily produced a replacement, but of course I had to wait another week for it to arrive. So my recommendation is that the chair should be shipped in two boxes. In practical terms, besides being heavy, the chair is bigger than many of the alternatives. Absolutely no problem if you have plenty of space, but for a cramped home office, before ordering it would be a good idea to study the dimensions and check that you have enough room to swing it around. The strange looking 'handlebar' above the back of the seat, a snap-on piece of plastic, can be used to hang a cardigan or lightweight jacket. It might even be intended for that!In use, no problems so far, and no signs of any wear and tear. But the polyester fabric does generate a bit of static electricity - result, a very minor shock when you touch the metal parts. The imitation leather alternative - same price - may be better, I don't know.

Expensive but worth it
I bought this for my office where I'm sat down 8 hours a day. I was getting regular neck and upper shoulder pain. Not had any of that since buying the chair (been 4 weeks now). It was really easy to put together, took no more than 3 minutes!! It takes a little getting used to, especially the split seat, but it also makes sense and doesn't feel awkward, just different, and extremely supportive. It kind if wraps you into a comfortable, correctly postured sitting position.I feel less tired when I get home, and I noticeably fidget less when working. It's expensive, but for me it's been worth it. It also looks amazing, and nearly everyone who's seen it has commented on how it looks. 10/10

Good chair for up to 70 kg persons
I had this guy and an Herman Miller Aeron for more than a year and here is what I liked and what I disliked.ProsIt forces you to stay straight due to shape of the back.the seat works well for smaller persons (max 70 kg)The base and wheels are extremely sturdy and shiny and the whole chair looks incredibly professional. The maximum height is quite big.ConsThe manufacturer doesn't have a buy-back program. Kept my unit in perfect condition but didn't matter.I am a big guy (100+ kg) and the seat is a bit uncomfortable, when you have a larger bum, it becomes stiff. It's not a chair for staying on it for hours. After 2-3 hours of staying on it you feel that the bum is numb and you start having back-pains.The headrest isn't adjustable enough, it gives you the illusion of adjust ability but I personally couldn't find a right position.ConclusionI am not saying that is a bad chair, I am saying that this chair didn't suited me.P.S. Get the Herman Miller Aeron - the price difference is just 200 gbp and shouldn't be an issue if you afford a 600 gbp chair :)

... I work from home and was having a really bad episode of back pain
I bought this chair as I work from home and was having a really bad episode of back pain. My osteopath said my back had totally seized. The service from the company was excellent - they emailed me with a description of the different types of chair, so I could read the details for myself and then they called me to check what sort of pain I had and agreed that I had chosen the correct model. The chair arrived 3 days afterwards. Minor hassle in putting it up on my husband's part, but as soon as I sat down and realised that there was no pressure and my back was completely supported. Yes it is expensive but I have not regretted the purchase, and my back has resolved. I would recommend this chair - it has made a huge difference to my life as I normally sit for around 6 hours a day.
