Best EDC Light Yet!
I’ve owned many Fenix flashlights, starting with Fenix’s first light (the L1) back in 2004. I find all of their flashlights well designed and a great value for the money. I’ve been on a quest to find the ideal EDC flashlight and I think the LD12R is very close to my ideal:- The size is perfect, not too big or small. I don’t like flashlights much smaller because it’s difficult to find them in my pocket when I’m in a hurry.- The 4 power levels are ideal. The moonlight [1 lumen] setting is ideal late at night, in the house, including reading in bed [so I don’t disturb up my wife]. The low [30 lumen] setting is perfect for inside the house. The medium [100 lumen] setting is all I need for outdoor activities, except in special circumstances when the high [600 lumen] setting is all the brightness I need.- Changing power levels is fast and convenient; all done with the tail switch. There is no need to hunt for a side switch.- It can stand on its end, casting light on the ceiling, which I find very useful at night when you don’t want to disturb others (like getting ready for bed).- The USB-C charging is state of the art and elegant. No “hanging chad” dust cover. You simply unscrew a few turns and insert the cable in the well protected port.- The battery charge indicator is very useful.- It is rugged, waterproof and 100% reliable.Ironically, two innovative features of the light (the side LED and magnetic clip) I found little use for, though I suspect many other users will. Also, if you carry the LD12R in the same pocked as your wallet, the magnetic clip could possibly cause problems with the magnetic strips on your credit cards (but I’m not sure). It would be cool if Fenix came up with a simplified version of the LD12R with a regular clip and no side LED (which would sell for less), but as is, I still find the LD12R the best EDC light yet!

Fenix Lights
Fenix makes a great light. I have used them as a go to for my EDC light needs. They are reliable, well built at a reasonable price point. This light is no exception to that, battery life is better than my older lights. I have mixed feelings about the pocket clip (would have preferred something more durable than plastic) the magnetic insert will be useful for many because you can place it someplace for easy access.

Well Built
Fenix is a reputable company and their products are well made and legitimate. Lots of fly by night torches being sold claiming 1 million lumens of brightness by scam companies out there, don’t get fooled.

Well-made EDC light, new daily carry!
This is a great light, well-built and designed! There are a few different functions that really impressed me, the first of which is the size...really good size for pocket carry! (picture attached with some items for reference) It isn't too heavy either (just under 3 oz), and the clip is very sturdy and will hold up to daily use without bending/losing tension if you prefer to clip it to your pocket/pants.The main light has 4 settings, from very dim "moonlight" to full, advertised as 600 lumens. I did run it past my light meter and it looks to be accurate (at full charge). A full press will turn it on or off, or while on you can slightly depress and toggle the modes. Full presses on and off quickly will also shift modes, but if you turn it on for more than few seconds and then off, it'll turn back on in the same mode you turned it off in. That function may be detailed more in the instructions, but I will say, the font size of the fold-out manual is unnecessarily small and very hard to read with out a magnifier. Full brightness is a nice throw of light, very bright; one step down seems good enough for walking the dog and keeping the next 20 ft or so in front lit up.The charging port is very nicely done. Rather than a little rubber flip-up cap, you turn the flashlight head to expose it. There's a rubber ring that seals when the head is closed, so it should be waterproof. The head seats firmly either fully "open" or closed, no wiggle at all, which speaks to precision of construction. USB-C port, and light charges to full pretty fast depending on what kind of charger you have available (two hours or so). Note that it's only an AA size battery inside, and will not last for hours and hours of constant use, particularly on the bright setting. However, the common size battery can be swapped for spare batteries easily, and a case is provided that can hold 4 AA. For EDC use, battery life is more than enough, but if your use case is for an extended period be aware that you will need to charge it after a few hours or swap the battery. Note that the light will "downshift" when the battery gets low and not allow you to use a higher setting. In addition to the main light, there is a side light. The actuation is pretty clever; you turn on the main light, then loosen the head just a bit until the main light shuts off, then tighten back up and the side light kicks on. Same process to switch back, very smooth once you get the hang of it. The side light also has different light modes; the brightest is enough to check oil level or refill radiator fluid at night. This is made easier with the magnetic clip; it rotates fully around the light so you can angle the side light where you want, and holds the weight of the flashlight well. Very handy, and a clever design; stuck just fine under my hood! There's a lot of functions built into this flashlight, and they put it into a well-made, compact case that can be carried around with ease, whether clipped to your belt/pants or in a pocket. It's my new favorite light to carry, as well as my new dog walk light. It seems well-built enough to last years, but I'll update should it break in some way earlier than expected.
