Surprise. It's big. And it is nice. I love the decoration.
Very good value. I was very surprised by its looks straight out of the box. The negative comments about casting surprise me. What I received is a nice cast oven with a well fitting lid. The oil on the oven is not nice. I cleaned it and re-seasoned it. (The dirty black oil it is finished with is the only negative I can think of.)Being cheap I tried canola when re-seasoning. Yuk. Normally I use olive oil, and will always do so in the future. This oven has straight sides. It is big. It doesn't lose capacity due to angled sides. And it is heavy. I bought this for bread baking. It would make a great oven for a duck. (There is one in my near future.)I may edit my review after I've baked bread in it, but I really think that any failures will be down to me. This is a good product. It works great for a two pound loaf. I used the trick of a stainless cup with a few ice cubes at one end to increase the steam. Problem, a dent in the loaf (on the left in the photo). And BTW it’s heavy. Give it plenty of time to heat up before lowering in the dough (using parchment of course).

"Chicken Fryer" is actually an Underated Sourdough Bread Baking Cast-Iron Dutch Oven
Just flip it upside down and you have one of the most versatile bread baking pieces of cast-iron available. You can make 1-15" Batard, 2-baguettes, or 2-8" batards or boules at a time.Generously tall lid traps steam for a great crispy crust, and permits a high rise. There's room enough for ice cubes to encourage even more steam. Here's a tip: when the steam phase is over, place the "lid" with the bread in it, on top of the "base", that will keep the bottom of your loaf from getting overdone. Use the lowest or next to lowest rack in your oven to avoid over-browning the top of your loaf. Keep your steaming time about 5 minutes longer and shorten your cover off time accordingly. Before you spend over $200 on a Challenger, give this a try for $51.00 or whatever it costs these days. I paid around $63 and I consider it a bargain.I don't know what "Warmth" stands for in the rations, but I use this regularly at 450-500°, so I guess it's warm enough for anything.Be sure to have high temp gloves that cover your forearms, it's not terribly smooth, but I use "Grippy" silicone gloves without incident. It's 20LBs, it doesn't feel that heavy, but it is bigger and more cumbersome than a Lodge Combo Pot, so If you're small or weak, it may not be for you.It is probably good for chicken as advertised.

Big Birtha
I use this across two burners and it is amazing. Can’t lift it when it’s full but my husband likes to help. I let him lift it. You can flip the lid over and use that as a warmer for breads and biscuits while you keep warm enough soup for 15 underneath..Also you can fry bacon on the lid but it is a greasier mess, but yummy. This fantastic pot is terrible for my ldl cholesterol.

Yeah.... it’s a good buy. If you love cast iron, do it.
This arrived WAY earlier than Amazon said it would so that was a fun surprise!! I WAS hoping it would fit a turkey but it’s too narrow for that. That’s ok though because that being said, I would have used it for a turkey once a year but I use my Dutch oven for roasting a chicken ALL THE TIME... with this I can roast two and use the extra to make homemade chicken pot pies! OR I can roast two when I have my kids over to visit with us. Delish! Anyway, this pan is really nice and preseasoned. It’s heavy but the side handles make it easy to hold sturdy, including when the cover is on. I can flip the lid and use it alone across two burners on my stove top to use as a flat griddle. There is just something about cast iron that cooks food so well. I’m excited it’s a nice quality and a REALLY good price.

Seasons up nicely
Purchased this to fit in my roaster oven at our summer place. The round skillets just won't fit and I love roasted meats cooked in cast iron. When I received the cooker, I was skeptical as the surface was very bumpy. I even think that I got one that someone had returned, as there was one portion of the surface that had been sanded down. I decided to season it up anyway as it was just the size I needed and was a good price. Well, the first seasoning yielded a very good result! I went ahead and added 2 more layers of seasoning before I tried it the first time. I put 2 boned chuck roasts in it, and slow roasted them and added the veggies later. Well, I loved it! Super non stick and yielded very good results. To those that are thinking about sanding theirs down, I say try it before doing that. The sanded portion actually did not take the seasoning as well as the bumpy areas. If you don't like it, you can always burn your seasoning off and sand it down later. The lid of the cooker fit very well on my pan and the size is just perfect to sit on the two burners on your cooktop to use as a griddle. I only put one layer of seasoning on mine before I cooked pancakes and it was very nice to cook on. Note: I saw some negative reviews about the coating it's shipped with. You want it coated until you get it, so that it doesn't rust. I found it very easy to scrub off with the scratchy side of the sponge and Dawn dish soap. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the sanded down spot on mine and the fact that it's made in China.

Perfect fit!
Game changer for my Sportsman's grill. Perfect fit. I was able to make fried potatoes in this fryer/dutch oven. Also by turning upside down I now have a lid for the Sportsman's grill and can bake and roast. I made a 5 inch steak and used the fryer turned upside down over the grate. Worked like an oven. The quality is 5 stars. It's heavy and should last a lifetime just like the Sportsman's grill. This really turned a really good hibachi grill into a more versatile bbq. Also the lid is a griddle and great for making breakfast pancakes, eggs and bacon. Glad I got this. Fry, bake, roast, grill. Awesome.
