Enhon Pressure Balance Cartridge Compatible with Grohe 47080000, Pressure Balancing Unit Cartridge Compatible with Tempress II Balancing Tub Shower Valves, Chrome

Worked to replace my 27 year old original Grohe shower pressure balance cartridge. The original Grohe is still on backorder for months. So for 1/3 the price, I decided to give this one a change. It works. I put a caliper to measure shaft and all dimensions. Pretty much identical to original. I cannot comment on long term life. But, for me worth it.In my situation, I also had to buy the front brass cover plate to stop water leaking through my cartridge valve stem. Apparently the front brass plate has a small plastic bushing and rubber O ring.

This valve was close to my original Tempress-II valve, but not quite: 1) The threaded hole at the end of the shaft did not match the size and pitch of the original valve. Therefore the screw did not fit. A new screw was not supplied with the new valve. I was not able to determine the size and pitch of the threads for the new valve, so I had to install without the screw. I suppose I could have re-tapped it to a new thread size, but should that be necessary? 2) The splines on the new shaft did not extend far enough. Therefore the high-temperature-limit piece would not work. (It just spun around the un-splined portion of the shaft). Had to install without this piece. Otherwise, the part worked as expected.

As others have mentioned, the screw on the original does not fit into this replacement. How stupid that it doesn't come with a screw!! I'll try to find one that fits, otherwise, will return and order from somewhere else...

One of the best valves ever used but our hard water takes a toll. I was so glad to get the part. It's not that hard to replace. The rest of the components will last 100 years.I feel fortunate. If my faucet was one of the popular brands the whole unit would have to ber replaced.Good product. I may order a spare for 5 years from now.

I finished installing the valve and went to put on the handle extension and as another reviewer stated, the screw doesn't threw in. The original screw is a 4mm x 0.7 thread screw. The threads on the new valve are much smaller, maybe a 2.5mm. So I got out a 4mm tap and drilled the hole out with a ⅛" drill and tapped it for the old bolt. DO NOT buy this if you don't have the tools and know how to retired a valve stem. After I finished the installation the valve worked great which is the reason for the 4 stars. When replacing the valve you should also replace the ⅜" x ⁹/¹⁶" o-ring for the handle shaft that is in the front cover of the valve. Mine was worn out and had a slight drip.

Bought this generic cartridge twice so far. The first time it laster 4 years. The second time it lasted 9 months. Now I have to buy it again. What a waste.

FYI. The screw that doesn’t come with the valve is the same thread as the 4 screws that put the two halves together on the old cartridge. Just use one of those
