Very Active Starter
Bought a young Starter during COVID and it worked well for 2.1/2 years - then decided to have a change and purchased a 68 year old rye starter, active when first arrived but subsequently it did not rise properly - tried loose & thick consistency plus different temperatures but something was not right.Purchased this one and it's excellent - do what they advise and add more flour than water for a thicker consistency (they advise toothpaste sort of thickness) and it more than doubles in size with large bubbles just like the photo. Tried it looser with a 50 / 50 flour & water and whilst it did not rise in the jar as well it was still very active and made a good loaf, however I prefer the thicker consistency which doubles in the jar.I was beginning to doubt myself with 68 year old starter not performing, however this has more than restored my confidence - by far the most active Starter I have used......would highly recommend.

Active starter from day one
Not the first sourdough loaf made , but not a regular baker by any means.,Starter arrived faster than advertised, followed good clear instructions and baked a pretty good loaf day 3. Nice crust not rock hard but chewy, not too sour but the taste I remember from San Francisco years ago. A week on starter has produced another nice strong levain for todays loaf.Very satisfied, good starter and recipe.

Fantastic Starter
I have tried and succeeded in making a sourdough starter in the past but have never been able to sustain it long enough to bake with. This came with simple and straight forward instructions which help me grasp the basics. It's so confusing when researching sourdough online.I am so please with the results of my first attempt. The taste is excellent. I used a BBC Good Food.I have also been successfully making Kafir using starter from this company. Both have been brilliant.

Difficult to review
We accepted we made a mistake thinking the product came with the jar, it did NOT come with a jar and was in a bag. We requested to return it, but heard absolutely nothing from the seller so accepted we had to try and use it. It was put in the fridge immediately we received it. We bought a jar to use and tried our best to follow the instructions, which are pretty useless really. To say we think we were ripped off is putting it lightly. So far all we're doing is "feeding" a yeast that isn't doing anything. Will we persevere? For a while longer, but I think we already know this ain't going to work. It gets one start for arriving.

Great starter dough
I have had this starter dough for a few months, and haven’t killed it yet despite forgetting to feed daily. II have 2 starters now 1 in the fridge and one in the kitchen. I have made several loaves with it and am really happy with the quality. Fingers crossed I don’t need to buy anymore. It arrived in a sachet with instructions that any bread novice could follow 5* seller and product.

Great, complex taste and easy to use
Bemused by a complaint about it not coming with a jar, poor instructions and arriving in a bag. Any clean jar is fine, the instructions were simple and helpful and the flavour is both complex and amazing.The starter was so active after its first feed that I was worried I needed to slow it down a bit as I wasn’t quite ready to use it!I’d intended to take a photo of my first loaf but made the mistake of leaving it on the kitchen counter to cool. Having now tasted it myself, I can see why my husband demolished half a loaf in a sitting. Delicious.I’ve also frozen some of it as a ‘just in case’ and to see if it really does revive after thawing.Definitely recommended!

Gives fine bread
My order came quite late. Long after it’s due date and so it missed its goal as a birthday gift.However once arrived, it stored well and has made some fine loaves.

Works great!
Took a bit of patience to learn the basics - if the starter isn’t very thick it doesn’t rise, so it can look inactive. Once I started using less water, I was able to see the starter peak and bake with it, the bread has been incredible! I use extra strong white flour and all has been good so far.
