Awesome NVR
I have owned 5 NVRs Home, Q-See, Hikvision and also used a PC-based recording system.Hikvision 76xx series NVRs met most needs, but are VASTLY improved by updating the firmware. Most notably, the top viewing speed goes up from 16x to 128x.Hikvision 96xx series similarly needs to have the firmware updated for best results. The stock power supply makes a lot of noise. The NVR is pretty large and will not fit into a smaller cabinet that the 76xx series will fit into.Removing the stock power supply allows for an external PC power supply that is whisper quiet. I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M2UINC8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and ran the plugs into the NVR through the opening where the stock power supply used to be. With the external power supply, the NVR can sit on top of the cabinet with no problem and makes negligible noise. The number of cameras supported is a little misleading since it depends on the quality of the video being recorded. Recording at 8MP, most 96xx NVRs support only a total of 4 cameras. Plan accordingly. In order to take advantage of all camera features, this NVR works best with Hikvision cameras. I have not tested adding other cameras on this NVR.
