McCall'sPatterns 7131, Misses Shorts and Pants, Chiffon, Size B5 (8-10-12-14-16)

I made both shorts and the trousers from this pattern and I am delighted with the results. Shorts were flattering and I particularly love the trousers. I wore both in hot weather in Turkey and they were great, cool and comfortable. I Found the pattern needs soft draping fabric such as rayon or soft poly cotton. The trousers ended up looking like Edwardian style walking skirt, but with all the modern convince of elastic waist and pockets. I found the elastic guide too long, so decided to cut for smaller size and it worked great. I'm going to attempt making these in heavier fabric for winter too.

Although I've made plenty of clothes over the years, I haven't used a commercial pattern for at least four decades. Glancing through the instructions, they seemed so complicated - but once I got started things became clearer. Some of the instructions seemed mysterious simply because they were in minuscule print, or tucked away somewhere under a folded flap on the packet. But perhaps that's just my elderly eyesight? One or two instructions did cause me real difficulty: "undersew" had me confused for some time, but I worked it out eventually. (And "baste" always makes me think of the Sunday roast ...) I made the culottes in the space of a busy week, and they fit well. Hopefully, they will seem simpler to sew next time I make the same pattern ...

Found it tricky to understand waist band instructions as only been sewing 5 months but got there after a few tries. I love wearing my shorts.

Ein schöner Schnitt für leichte Strandmode, aber leider fehlt die angekündigte "Deutsche Nähanleitung". Zwar sind die Bilder der Nähanleitung schlüssig, jedoch wäre die Anleitung in deutsch vom Vorteil gewesen.
