A Fantastic Theory... A Fantastic Book...
The Orion Mystery is a book that contains a revolutionary theory for the Egyptian world. It is a book with a theory that shook the foundation of Egyptology. What this book contains is a plethora of evidence to support Bauval's theory that Egyptians were Astral(star) based instead of Helio(solar) based. His theory and discoveries shake the foundation of Mainstream Egyptology by showing that alternative explanations of the material can solve existing questions. There is far more to the pyramids than meets the eye and Bauval bravely took that step forward with this book in the overall quest to find the perfect answer. Within all the information and theory you will find a book that is sincere, honest and written in a way to educate everyone about his findings. It also brings to light how the mainstream Egyptology community does not seem very open to new findings or suggestions, and in fact hinders new approaches at times (example: Gantenbrick's Robot probe)Overall this is a Fantastic book that is a great addition to a collection about Egyptology and Pyramids. Bauval and Gilbert combine to make the journey into this fantastic theory with ease, providing the reader with a very laid back, almost down-to-Earth kind of feel to the writing. There is no bombardments of scientific facts, instead sticking to simple and easy to follow explanations for his theory. A definite must read!

What a great book to require all high school students to read
As an Engineer, I've had the opportunity to travel to many countries in my fifty-year career. Southeast Asea, Northern Europe, and the mid east. As an amateur archeologist it was all exciting to visit places in history. I spent two weeks in Egypt, but at the time I had little interest in the pyramids. I suppose it was due to the fact that so much was written and so much was distorted by Hollywood, and the various religions. I bought Orion Mystery to read on a long weekend but didn't expect to gain much more than I already knew. I couldn't put the book down. Let me repeat that in case you skimmed over it. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I will never look at the sky and at Orion the same again. What a great book to require all high school students to read. it would open their eyes to a myriad of possibilities in any field.

A readable account of scholarly research by the author on the astronomical layout of the fourth dynasty pyramids in Egypt
This is an amazing story of an originally-amateur Egyptologist, an engineer, who uncovered the astronomical basis for the layout of the Giza pyramids and the other pyramids in the Memphis group that were built (near where Cairo is today) during the third millenium BCE. The inspiration came to him, at work in Saudi Arabia on an engineering project, that the layout of the three Giza pyramids on the ground beside the Nile river duplicated the layout in the sky of the three Orion belt stars and the Milky Way. This formed the foundation of proving that the four shafts in the Great Pyramid targeted the pole stars to the north and the Orion stars to the south,.as the sky would have looked in 2,450 BCE. This was done using computer simulation of the 'precession' of the constellations that is caused by the earth's axis wobbling on a 26,000 year cycle. The most amazing thing is that the Egyptian priest/astronomers of that era must have understood this phenomenon and could and did precisely arrange the layout and architectural design of the pyramids and their star shafts. Another incredible revelation is that the layout of the three pyramids on the ground relative to the Nile duplicates the layout in the sky of the Orion belt stars as it would have looked in 10,500 BCE, again through computer simulation.of precession.

Couldn’t put it down
Bauval captures the soul of Egypt in this brilliant theory of the Giza plateau’s celestial design. He makes everything come alive to such a degree, I found myself wondering if he might be Imhotep reborn. Loved it!

The Truth Will Out
This is a Great Book. I highly recommend it and David Rohl's Book, A Test of Time or as published in the USA as Pharaohs and Kings. There is a tremendous longstanding bias and prejudice in Egyptology that is probably the worst I have ever encountered in any so called Experts's field of endeavor. You can overcome it by having an open mind and judging the facts yourself by looking at the evidence with an open mind.If you have any interest in Egyptology or the Ancient past that tells the truth based upon evidence on the Ground and in the Sky in plain view, rather than the pontifications of old biased, apparently blind, alleged Scholars, add this book and Mr. Rohl's Book(s) to your Library.

I have a good deal of respect for Robert Bauval
I am still in the middle of reading this book...but...so far...I find it very fascinating. I have a good deal of respect for Robert Bauval...from what I have seen and heard him interviewed on the History Channel. I greatly admire Egyptologists and researchers who think outside the box...and have the courage to share the data they have un-covered...at the cost of being sneared at ...and even publically belittled by the crusty old Egyptologists who are terrified at the thought of having to go back to the drawing board...and admit...their dusty old history books have to be re-written. Because the truth is...there is so much more buried under the sands of Egypt than we will ever know...so when people like the authors of this book come along...who have spent decades ...researching the alignment of the pyramids and the stars...(many thousands of years earlier than the widely held hypothesis) they should be congratulated for possibly un-covering very compelling evidence...ancient Egypt is much older than we thought...this book ...and the findings within its pages...is giving me goosebumps...!!

Exquisitely researched and perfectly written
Another great book devoted to unraveling the mysteries of the incredible Egyptian culture. Exquisitely researched by an amateur Egyptologist. That field is so vast and over studied that a break away theory will often be shunned by the "experts". Bauval did his research in his spare time and often while stationed far from Cairo. His willingness to pursue alternatives to accepted beliefs and his patience in testing his theories is remarkable.
