Very nice fire proof file box! There aren't many rated boxes or safes out there that accommodate both letter and legal size hanging folders, and this one does the job well. I found this model early in my search but did a significant amount of shopping, and ultimately came back to this one.If files are what you need to protect, and want to have easy access to them and stay organized, this is a more practical, functional option than a 1-hour personal safe with a front swinging door. Safes have their pros for other purposes, but don't work so well for organizing and accessing documents, and even the largest 2 and 3 cubic foot ones that have file drawers in them don't accommodate legal size hanging folders. The only other good option out there for 1-hour protected filing are two-drawer fire-proof file cabinets, which hold about twice as much, but are also a lot larger and heavier, usually ugly, and about four times more expensive.Pros:This box is very solid (and heavy for its size). It's well made, and neither looks cheep, nor flashy - just does the job it's intended to do without drawing attention to itself. It easily accommodates at least 25 moderately filled legal size hanging folders (or more letter size, which hang in the other direction). The lid has silent pneumatic lifts that slowly lower it for the last couple of inches, preventing it from slamming shut (similar to some of the newer kitchen drawers you may have seen) - I found this to be a nice surprise for the price of the box. It was packed well for delivery, with no damage.Cons:My only very minor grumbles include the fact that the bulges on the sides which house the lifts for the lid are not really shaped to be usable as handles to cary the box - as such, it's best to lift it from below with two people. Another minor gripe is that because the tracks for the hanging folders are integrated in the shell, just immediately below the lid, you can't have things sticking up much above the tops of the folders - the lid will still close fine, but it will bend over any oversize documents on its way down - It would have been nice if the box were just 1/2 inch deeper with the tracks recessed slightly. Neither of these two minor complaints are enough to drop my rating to 4 stars though. I might give it 4.5 if Amazon would let me.One last thing to note regarding the purchase: The box comes with a very large silica gel packet (it's probably about a 50 gram pack), which fits in the bottom under your files to keep them dry, so there is no need to spend extra money to buy those separately (which I did, not realizing it came with one)!Hope this review helps if you've been exploring every option for protecting files like I did.

I love how heavy this is, it can probably meet its claimed fire and water resistance. Note that the latches on the outside are plastic and hold the safe completely shut, but without the key you can still open these latches just enough for water to get in, so remember to close them! In a fire they would melt and leave a small gap into the safe, I'm not sure if smoke could then cause damage to the documents inside or not, but I'm adding a hose clamp around it just to be safe.The purpose of this safe is not security, the key is simple and only there for convenience. It can always be moved by the as there are no points to bolt it to the ground. But as a substitute for a safety deposit box it works great provided you have other home security measures.

I looked at several fire/proof safes online trying to decide which one to purchase. I thought about where we live and decided on going with one hour protection. Next thing was the size. I decided to get one big enough to hold several important items to us. Then I read reviews. Oh My! On every safe, just about, people didn't like the locking devices on the safes. Some broke off the key, Some didn't like the plastic in the locking area. Some discussed moisture getting in their's. I finally decided that no matter which safe/brand I was going to choose was going to have some bad reviews. I figured that an average of 4 out 5 stars was pretty good. Ordered this Honeywell 1108 Fire/Water Large File safe and I couldn't be happier. It came in perfect shape. Nothing chipped or broken. Nothing wrong with the locking device. In other words, if I had just went with all the bad reviews, I wouldn't have gotten a safe that fits our needs. It is heavy. Put it in a spot that you are not intending to move it around much. It is large, but that's what we wanted. I hope that we never have to try out the replacement guarantee but at this point we feel "safe" that this "safe" will protect our important documents.

This box definitely should do what it’s intended to do. It is much heavier than most people will think. Seems to be well constructed to keep out Fire and Water. Opening and closing it is a bit tricky the first few times, but then it’s like anything else you’re used to.The biggest surprise was the inside dimensions. I’m sure it’s listed, but I was surely expecting more space. It will work for my needs, but buyer beware. A sheet of copier paper can NOT fit flat inside.Again, it works for me so I’m satisfied

I have been working to better store sensitive items to keep away from guests, kids, and small animals, and this safe is perfect! It's quite heavy for the size of the safe, but it's still portable if you need to move it around on a daily or weekly basis. Perfect for any stinky items as well. Great upgrade from small low quality safes. I highly recommend it!

Ordered this for use as a home safe. Had a safe deposit box at the bank but thought it was a waste to keep paying $50 a year for a small safe and it was inconvenient to have to go to the bank every time I needed something from it. Bought this to replace our safe deposit box. Very happy with it. Fits legal size folders and has plenty of space. Heavy duty - not easy to pick up and carry off if you had a break in.
