Great new Catan!!!
Excellent new take on Catan. Visually stunning, but the plastic playing pieces are hard to pick up and the distinguishing between cities and settlements can be problematic, especially when covered in vines. Most of the base play is similar, however there are some differences- no ports, you collect other goods to trade for resources (fish, feathers, coca), you play to 11 points, longest road no longer earns you points, but a one-to-one trade advantage, largest army allows you to move the robber if it’s on your hex, and now there are alpacas instead of sheep and potatoes instead of wheat. Basically it’s like three mini rounds of Catan- where you aim to earn four points in the first two and three points in the last by building settlements and cities. Now this is where it gets interesting-once you earn the points for that round your tribe goes into decline and you cover your buildings with vines, remove all roads, and place one new settlement, this also means longest road constantly changes hands. Anyone can build roads to a settlement in decline and steal it. This means throughout the game the board is constantly changing and at any time it’s anyone’s game. This makes it very interesting and competitive. The only negative is some of the instructions were a bit contradictory and had some typos- like the spaces between settlements some places said 2 others said 3, we struck with the 2 rule. Can’t recommend this game more! If you love Catan you will really enjoy Rise of the Incas!

If you love Catan, you will love this version even more! By far one of the most unique expansions
This standalone game is pretty fun!! It is probably my favorite expansions of Catan so far because it is so UNPREDICTABLE due to the 3 different phases of the game and the fact that every player can be in different phases at different times. There are two sets of development cards that are used depending on what phase all players have advanced to and a lot of other unique aspects to the game components. It is also a bit smaller than some of the other Catan games so it is much easier to fit on your table if you don't have a ton of space to work with. This game keeps you on the edge of your seat. Super fun! Definitely recommend it!

Just wow!
Wow!!! Being Peruvian our roots come from the Incan Tribe and much of our pride comes from their accomplishments, culture and lifestyle. This game really embodies all of the things we love about Catan and blends it well with the Incan theme. We love it and currently choose this version of Catan over any other we have. It’s fun, easy to understand and has beautiful additions.

Cheaper Quality but Better Game
I really like to concept of this standalone version of Catan. This has a better way of balancing out the game by giving players the opportunity to take over high yielding tiles when they dont get them at the start of the game. I like the idea that civilizations go into decline over time and that longest road and largest army give you advantages that are not tied directly to victory points. My only issue is with the quality of the game pieces itself. The pieces seem to be made of cheaper material especially the roads, cities and settlements (hollowed out plastic) unlike the wood from the OG Catan. Also, this seems to be a continuous problem I have with Catan but this is the 3rd expansion I have bought (Starfarers, Seafarers and now this) and every single one of them came with missing or defective pieces. I dont understand why this is such a big problem with this company but after 3 times of this happening its hard to say that its just me. This has to be a widespread problem and one that should be considered when purchasing. I have reached out to the manufacturer 4 times for each game that had missing/defective pieces and they said they would send pieces then immediately told me they were out of stock on replacement pieces indefinitely. I have to initiate a return, get a replacement, take the pieces I need from the replacement and send back what I dont need.

Great take on the Catan game!
We really love Rise of the Inkas. As avid Catan players we love the depth that this game lends to the strategy of the game and how it helps circumvent some of the unbalance that can come in the game from initial placement.

Family fun twist to original Catan
This was a fun game with the basic premise the same as Catan original but with a fun twist that made it great for our family.

My new favorite Catan game
I have been playing Catan games for years and have most of the expansions as well as the history and geography variants. This one is currently my favorite. It utilizes the basic Catan strategies, but requires a lot of forethought before you make your moves. It is played in three phases and the player who seems to be running away with it early on may find him or herself in difficulty later on. By the same token, a player who falls behind early still has a chance at victory. I've played it a dozen times or so and have yet to win it, but I still find it most enjoyable.

2nd Best Catan Game
We have made Catan Cities & Knights our favorite and each expansion so far since then has failed to meet the standard ... until Rise of the Inkas ... we love it! Very well done. Fresh, not "overdone" (like Game of Thrones), and adaptable. Good job developers!
