6 years of use
After 6 years of use, this finally started to short. This product is quality. However do note it gets a little hot when in use for many hours. Would advise turning it into a relatively ventilated area

A nice HDMI to VGA converter for those of us that need to get video out into an analog VGA signal.
We have a projector (Canon REALiS SX60) with a 1400x1050 native resolution. The high density DB-15 connector can take direct PC input or RGB signals and there are connectors for other inputs, but this isn't a review of the Canon projector. We have a VGA cable run from the projector up and through the ceiling / below the floor on the 2nd story and down into the entertainment cabinet where the equipment and 100" diagonal projection screen comes down over. The problem is more items today have HDMI only outputs ... so we needed something that we can plug into any of them and get a VGA signal the projector is happy with.So far we've used this on a Kindle Fire, Roku, DVD Player, XBox One, and a PC and all have converted to a VGA output that the projector is happy with. The only negative I have seen so far is the unit does get VERY warm, enough so you won't want to bury the dongle under any equipment but leave it as exposed as possible. Heat is a mortal enemy of electronics ... There is a 3.5mm audio jack which we pipe to a pair of RCA phone plugs and into the amplifier which (so far) has given us good sound off everything that generates sound. All we need now is an automatic HDMI port switcher and we will be all set!It does what we need and is very reasonably priced.

Compact solution to connect to a VGA monitor device...
Pretty much simply plug and play, I was able to connect my Raspberry Pi from the HDMI to a monitor that only had a VGA port with little issue. However, I did notice one quirk which may only be isolated to the way a particular file is formatted. This device also comes with a 3.5 audio jack to connect to the audio port as well. When testing out the audio and visual features I noticed that when attempting to stream YouTube videos from 2013 or before that the audio quality suddenly got sound interference and static. Anything after that time frame appears to stream with the proper video and audio without issue. When encountering that issue it seemed that the video feed came in properly but would not feed the audio in properly. As far as I could test, this was only on earlier YouTube videos and only on YouTube itself which may have had an audio/visual compression change in their streaming that was picked up by this particular device. I have yet to be able to recreate it otherwise. Though for my main use this device functions well and for the price provides a simple solution on a budget.

Well Worth The Cost..... but be advised....
Works PERFECTLY for attaching my ASUS Chromebook to an old 21" VGA only monitor. I couldn't be more pleased. One cautionary note, I'm glad I read the reviews from other similar type adapters cautioning about getting system sound. A simple HDMI to VGA adapter will not transmit system sounds. (The HDMI "assumes" it will carry the sound, which is not the case on a computer like it is on a TV set or Blue-ray player, etc.) you need an adapter like this one which has a separate input jack for connecting the HeadPhone Jack into this adapter if you want to watch streaming videos with sound, listen to music, etc.Based on my investigations, this was the best overall value for the cost. As I stated, I couldn't be more pleased for what I paid and what I received in return.

Good customer service, second unit works still!
UPDATE 2: So far the second unit, shipped free of charge by the seller, has worked great! Good customer service and a working product has raised my original 1 star rating to a 4 star.UPDATE: The company who makes this sent replacement, so I bumped this review up a star for the customer service. Will update on the quality of the second unit in time.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Item quit working 7 days after the return period.Worked great the first month and week, and now nothing. This item is junk- stay away.

mostly as advertised
product does what I needed to. However, I bought it over others because it includes an audio jack. So far, I have not gotten the audio jack to work in any configuration and the documentation provides no clues as to whether I am doing something wrong. But I just plug my audio cable into my laptop's headphone jack and that works fine with this adapter. For the price, that is satisfactory and so I'm not motivated to determine whether the product is deficient or just not user friendly regarding the audio.

Does not work for game console to Monitor connections
Update**Considering it does not work for game console connections I was contacted by the company regarding this issue and they promptly gave me a refund! For that was great customer service and that throughouly brought the rating up even though it didn't work for the purpose I wanted it for.Original review:Cable works but not with all connections! I can use it for computers only which is unfortunate as I tried to use it for my Wii U and Nes Mini to my PC and it does not even show video but it detects it is connected to the monitor! VERY strange why this connection does not work in all fitting devices like it should.

Should be a 5 star rating
Ultimately it was a great product. It works perfectly fine with my external computer monitor. The reason why I gave it 4 stars because of my purpose was to use this cable with my TV which has a VGA port & not a HDMI port since it is an old school HDTV. I'm not blaming the product for not working, but I would have given it 5 stars if it had worked with my TV. Still an outstanding product though.
