Evenly cast light for closet fill-lighting...
Pixi has an interesting product line here. As of this writing, they've been on Home Depot shelves for at least three years, and I haven't seen much in the way of big development, nor price decreases — in other words, a stable product. But these 3000K units are new to the market, and not sold at Home Depot. And they're also approaching double the price for the everyday price at Home Depot. My panels (one of these 1x2 panels, and two 1x1 units) are being put to use in a walk-in closet as "fill light" to supplement a large 4-bulb semi-flush ceiling-hung fixture. They're largely unnoticed but do an excellent job of enhancing the output of the main fixture, practically eliminating shadows. Here are a couple things worth mentioning: - These 3000k fixtures are dimmable, but check Pixi's dimmer compatibility list -- their panels with model numbers ending in "A" use a completely different list of compatible dimmer switches than their previous models. This is the case for their 2700K fixtures, which come in "A" and non-A variants. - Their 2700k fixtures (the Home Depot version) are definitely yellower than these. A 300K difference may not seem like a lot, but it's noticeable. I spent the extra money on these because I'm using them in a closet, where "daylight white" is preferred. - Unfortunately, their 4000K "daylight white" models (the other Home Depot version) are NOT dimmable, and only come in two sizes: 1x4 (long), or 2x2 (square). At approximately 1,000 lumens of light per square foot, both of those panels put out around 4,000 lumens apiece, and without the ability to dim, were unworkable for my installation -- but they'd be great in a kitchen. - Additionally, their 4000K models are considered "industrial" and therefore didn't come with surface-mount brackets. That just recently changed, but there are a bunch of the old models still on store shelves. So to make sure you're getting the most recent version (with mounting brackets), make sure it's an "A" model (still not dimmable, though). Otherwise, they're designed to be grid mounted or hung. - Lastly, the 4000K models have a corner knockout for wiring. This 3000K, and the 2700K, both have center-of-panel electrical connections. The mounting brackets are simple, flimsy plates with four screw holes, a large center-of-bracket cutout that will fit over a ceiling box, and four "ears" that slide into slots on the top side of the panels to secure them. The screw holes don't line up with with the ears on any standard ceiling box; instead, they're intended to be fastened directly to the ceiling. The panels are light weight, so molly bolts are probably fine, but if you've got your ceiling open, it wouldn't hurt to install some backing to fasten to.Finally, I needed a rule of thumb for lighting, and a few easy web searches gave me plenty of information. In the most general terms, household rooms requiring bright task lighting -- kitchen counters & sinks, bathrooms, and closets -- should have about 80 lumens of illumination per square foot. General kitchen lighting can be dimmer, as can other rooms, all the way down to about 15 lumens per square foot for a hallway.

Soft white means warm lighting not the cool white I was seeking
Information is not accurate in terms of light colour. Soft white means warm lighting not the cool white I was seeking. We already have two of these fixtures and wanted to match them. Lighting itself is sleek and many will be content with them, just ensure you seek out either warm or cool or you will have mismatched lighting.

The only bad thing I can say about this is it is a smaller footprint than the 4' fluorescent fixture it replaced and I now have to paint the ceiling

Fell out of love with it
I loved it until I realized how short the list of compatible dimmers actually. It does dim nicely with a compatible dimmer, however they are no plans to add any compatible smart dimmers. I am going to have some lightly used panels on craigslist as soon as I find a comparable fixture with some smart dimmer abilities. The driver on my replacement for the one with the failed driver has also died with a loud sparking sound. The issue was contained within the fixture, but it has said loudly it's time to move on...

Great Garage Light Replacement
Very bright and fairly easy to install for a person with decent workman skills.

A sleek looking fixture and puts out a lot of light. I mounted it to replace a kitchen ceiling fixture. Unfortunately the mounting system does not hold the fixture flush to the ceiling without using additional mounting tabs which are exposed and ruin the clean look of the install.
