The glory of the old West returns when Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years saddles up for another season of high-spirited adventure. Desperadoes and dreamers collide in Curtis Wells, a boomtown on the Montana frontier. The local gunsmith is Mattie Shaw (Kelly Rowan), who does what she must to survive, and Amanda Carpenter (Tracy Scoggins) has her own explosive mixture of passion and danger that oly helps to fuel wounded heart and a wary eye, especially where Clay Mosby (Eric McCormack) is concerned. Only time will tell what lies behind Mosby's charming facade. With a new look and an exciting cast of characters struggling to make a life on the untamed frontier, his collection brings to life on the untamed frontier, this collection brings to life all the grit, romance, and excitement of the wild West. - 1,012 minutes

I cannot recommend this ENOUGH
Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years has always gone way beyond any mediocre TV western for me. The characters are masterfully played and casted. My personal favorite portrayal being that of Francis Clay Mosby, former Confederate Colonel, played by Eric McCormack (pre-Will & Grace fame - yes, people, the man CAN act). With his Clint Eastwood-style one-liners, Mosby is a dark, tormented wonder of sorts. Just when you think you've got him figured out, he'll suprise you. Also, there is Newt Call. I highly recommend buying Lonesome Dove: The Series to see WHY the main characters interact the way they do. This is especially true of Call and Mosby. In LD: TS, Mosby coveted Call's wife. Now, supposed years later, Call has returned as a bounty hunter in LD: The Outlaw Years and the show is much darker, yet more realistic and not as "Little House on the Prairie" as LD: TS started out to be. In my opinion, it took a better turn.LD: The Outlaw Years is joined by some new faces that are also wonderfully cast and superbly acted. You see characters from LD:TS come into their own (which is not always good, but still great to watch lol).LD: The Outlaw Years has spawned cult followings until present day (it was originally aired in 1995/1996 I believe).I hope my review was helpful to you. Having never seen the original Lonesome Dove movies, I cannot say how this series actually stacks up, but I will say I do not give recommendations everyday and I guarantee this one will not steer you wrong (boo hiss, bad pun). lol

Episodes out of order, but great show
I fell in love with this series while checking out the disks from my local library a few years back. When they were not returned once, I began to hunt them down online, only to be surprised they weren't in print, and there were no copies for sale in all of the little nooks and crannies sites I frequent. Imagine my surprise when I did a search for another part of the LD series, and found these! I immediately tossed them into my shopping cart and patiently waited. A few days later, I immersed myself back into my favorite show of the time.Eric Macormack as Clay Mosby, Scott Bairstow as Newt Call, and Kelly Rowan as Mattie Shaw, with Bret Hart's Luther Root, created such characters that they are near impossible to forget. I could listen to Mosby read a phone book and be extremely satisfied, the accent is spot on.My only complaint is the episodes are not in order. I discovered this starting disk one, with me thinking maybe I hit the wrong episode on the menu, but nope...it's out of order. While I'm familiar enough with the series to know which goes where, and to remember back stories that lead up to events, I'm afraid there may be some out there that will be ultimately confused. But, I can't even knock a star for that, because I am so excited that I found the disks again.

I enjoy Lonesome Dove:Outlaw Years
I have the Lonesome Dove Collection and the Return to Lonesome Dove. I watch these DVDs in sequence. Now I have purchased the Lonesome Dove:Outlaw Years. I really enjoy these sequences even though each sequence is only for 45 minutes. All the Lonesome Dove movies are very good. They do not have the regular western movie backdrops. These are filmed showing the hardships endured by our forefathers in crossing the country to settle it. I strongly recommend the Lonesome Dove:Outlaw Years and the Lonesome Dove Collection including the Return to Lonesome Dove.

Lonesome Dove the Outlaw Years
This is about as good as it gets. Love DVDs that you can watch with the whole family. I truly wish they had continued with this series. I finally have the whole series and watch it over and over again; you never get tired of it.If you like westerns this is for you. It travels with Newt Call(Scott Bairstow) through all his trials and tribulations in the old west.Clay Mosley(Eric McCormack) is a man to love and hate; you never know what he will do next.....good or bad.
