Great travel backpack!
I got this backpack for a 20 day trip to Europe. Fits everything I need to backpack Europe and great quality. I love that the day pack comes off and you are able to a carry on and personal item. Great idea. Definitely recommend this backpack.

Still Works well
This bag works very well. My wife and I both purchased one for a nine day trip to Europe, well designed. Not bulky. We were able to maneuver in crowds well.Only down fall is the sternum/chest strap can fall off. My wife lost hers while changing trains. They could have figured out a way to secure it better.Update 6 years later this is still my go to for travel. It has held up well. If this one ever falls apart I would purchase the one with the option of having the additional day pack added, since you cannot buy it separately.

JUST BUY IT!
This backpack is freaking awesome. Took it around europe for hands free with the two littles. My 3 year old son would put his body weight on the fromt bag while it was on my shoulders and i thought for sure the clips would break but they never did. Super impressed! Just buy it! I also have had their 130L chasm bag for several years and that thing is also awesome.

One of the best purchases I made for a trip to Europe!
Took this all over Europe! Went to Germany, France, Spain, and Switzerland with this bag! Fits everything you could need. Comfortable on the shoulders and back. Easy to carry for long periods of time. I love the hidden compartments. The security features with the zippers and the hard shell top. I believe it has RFID abilities as well which is nice. Felt secure and safe with it on my back. Highly recommend!

Thule quality pack, a keeper - 60L main pack is different than 40L
I purchased the 60L version for one bag air travel, and overall am very happy with it. I've owned a Thule laptop backpack for several years and the features and quality are outstanding. Thule puts a lot of thought into their packs! This bag has a lot of features - I won't go over them since they are in the other reviews and the videos. One big feature that I missed between the 40L and the 60L is that the main bag of the 60L does not have a laptop compartment like the 40L. That was actually one of the features that I originally wanted in a 40L carry-on pack. Instead, the laptop compartment is in the padded sleeve of the piggybacked 20L bag. At first I was disappointed, but then it was pointed out to me that with air travel, the main bag could go in the overhead bin and the 20L bag would be the personal item stored under seat, providing easy access to the laptop and other items in the 20L. It makes sense, and probably one of the reasons why Thule did this, as well as provide a front carry option for the 20L (to keep the laptop weight closer to your body).A couple of other things to note:The main bag has a substantial stiffening sheet on the bottom/back panel. When the backpack straps are stowed in their compartment, they need to be kept flat and not bunch up or overlapped. Otherwise they push up on the sheet, making the main storage compartment volume seem smaller.Capacity:I don't know how they measure 40L, I can only picture it as 20 2L Coke bottles, and I have a hard time believing it can hold that much. Maybe it can.If you use packing cubes, the large size Amazon Basics cube fits perfectly in the main compartment. You might be able to fit three of them.As an exercise, here is what I packed into it, in order of loading (disclaimer, this is not packing for an actual trip):1 Garment Sleeve (1 40S blazer jacket, 1 khaki pants, 1 dress shirt, tie)Eagle Creek https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9S84F6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=11 large size packing cube (12 medium heavy cotton tee shirts)Amazon Basics https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014VBHL96/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=11 18" garment folder (2 polo shirts, 1 jeans, 1 microfiber golf shorts)Gonex https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071D5ZF1F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=11 clear travel quart 3-1-1 toiletry bag 3/4 fullLermende https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079GS4RSP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Misc loose clothes (2 boxers, 2 socks, 1 workout shorts, 1 workout shirt)Overall, this is a great pack that I plan to take on a 3 week trip to China. This thing is small
It is well made and the compartments are well thought out and handy, but these packs are too small for a multi day trip. Maybe a day trip. If your planning to pack them for a several day trip, forget it. Too small and too many straps and adjustments. Really, 3/4 of the straps and adjustment bands and pulls are not necessary.
