The Biggest USB Powered Portable Storage Available
I'm not a Western Digital fan. In the past I've had wrong cables in the box, and their "customer service" didn't care. Despite it being sealed in WD logo shrink wrap, they blamed Amazon. That's crazy. Like Amazon would be swapping cables in a sealed box.Anyway, they are the only ones who carry a 6 Tb storage capacity portable, which is currently the biggest available for a drive that is powered by the USB port. And one of my projects was about to outgrow my Seagate 5 Tb portable. The nice thing is even though they are the only game in town the price is in range with smaller drives. It's very quiet to use. It an easy plug and play drive. I reformatted it as Ex-Fat for cross-platform use. The quality of the case seems an improvement from past drives.

Solid external drive. Reliable, overall best price and quality.
In 2025, this still seems to be the best simple external hard drive, at best price. No extra power cord needed. Just plug into laptop/desktop, and store 6TB of data. I have not had major reliability problems, and use these daily for many years. Only issue is if a drive is accidentally knocked off a desktop (dog hits it with tail, etc) they can fail.If you use these to store large (60GB+, etc) computer games from EPIC/Steam stores, sometimes the game stores will lose track of the hard drive. Easy fix is to 1) search in task manager, close all game launchers. 2) unblug external hard drive, 3) reopen games launcher. Hard drive should get recognized again.

Works in Ubuntu!
Works as expected so far.If this changes, I'll be back. 6tb, formatted to ext4 with no issues in Ubuntu.Fortunately, when the inept, & apparently untrained Amazon driver tossed it onto my mat outside it didn't cause apparent damage. Yet. SMH!

Useless junk, auto un mounts after 10 minutes.
Keeps auto dismounts, the drivers are trash, and you cant download them from Wd. Dont even bother getting this drive, when it auto dismounts, the drivers freeze, as if the drive is still connected to the os, but the os sees that its unable to read or write to the drive. Just get a Usb flash drive, uses less energy as well. Im real disappointed in the quality, this is the type of service and quality I expect from sea gate and amd (avoid them both at all costs). For 150 bucks this drive is a joke, cant be used at all.
