Fox Labs One Point Four Saved me from Two(!) Knife Wielding Attackers!
I bought the Fox Labs One Point Four Pepper Spray two years ago in the 2 ounce size. Very recently I had an incident involving two knife wielding attackers where this exact pepper spray saved me. Thus, I felt compelled to sit down and write a review.First off, I live in Medellin, Colombia in South America. I have been robbed at gun point once by two guys on a motorbike. That was like 3 years ago. I did not carry a pepper spray at that time. This time however it was two pedestrians that were walking by foot and took me by surprise. Because if anything I was expecting to be robbed by two guys on a motorbike. I was taking an evening walk around the neighborhood around 9PM with my small Pomeranian dog and there were two dudes. They seemed suspicious particularly because the streets were very empty but those two guys were walking 7-8 feet behind each other like they would not know each other. But two guys that don't know each other and don't talk to each other would not walk that close to each other on such deserted streets at night. But they were walking in front of me. So all good. Or that's what I thought. I crossed the street and they also crossed the street in front of me. Then unexpectedly they both stopped walking and stood there for a second. Then suddenly they turned around towards me and each of them brandished a really huge Rambo type knife with fixed blade that they had just pulled from beneath their sweaters. The one guy was even brazenly smiling at me like "Got You".That was a superb shock and activated an immediate flight or fight reaction. I actually perceived the whole situation from there onwards in slow motion. They were approximately 14 feet away from me and I still had my airpods in. Still, I had my Fox Labs spray handily situated in the right pocket of my jumper which I immediately drew without any hesitation and I began spraying it on the first attacker which was more to my front at approximately 14 feet distance. What came out of the nozzle was a strong misty stream of orange fog with many droplets. It did not come out as a pure stream. Which was good. It was a very foggy stream, let's call it that. It probably depends if you shake the spray before use or not. Or if you only press the discharge button for a short moment or if you keep it continuously pressed like I did. I hit the first attacker on his chest where the misty stream exploded into a cloud of fine orange fog. I saw the shock and surprise in the attacker's eyes. It was the guy who had brashly smiled at me and now he was waving his hands in panic to get the cloud that was covering his whole upper body away from him. While I was adjusting the stream a little higher to his face the first attacker turned around in a very rapid motion covering his face with both hands and then he SPRINTED away. It really left an impression on me how he full-on sprinted away like Usain Bolt. Then while I was switching my aim to the second attacker which was more to my right at about 14.5 feet distance I realized that he also had already turned away his face covered with both hands and he was just about to run. And that was it. Seeing them both running away I felt an exhilarating rush of victory that would last for days. I kid you not. I legitimately felt like a UFC champion that had won the fight of the year! It was that glorious rush that gave me all the motivation to write the best review on the Fox Labs One Point Four pepper spray that anybody has ever read.Looking back I loved the orange color of the pepper spray. It definitely comes off as more intimidating and it also has the real life practical benefit that it is much easier to see the stream in dark light conditions which was just the case in my situation. The effect was immediate, the robbers realized that I was not an easy victim and gave up on the spot and ran. Especially the first guy also got burned up quite bad and they were absolutely forced to flee. I did not get a direct hit to the first guy's face but a very generous part of the mist must have hit his face and burned like hell. The fog must also have gotten very nicely in his airway choking him. Hence why he sprinted off.I actually measured the weight of the 2 ounce can after use and compared the weight to another unused can. It turned out that I had only used up 10grams which equals 10ml. The entire bottle has 56ml (2 ounces). I was spraying for around 2 seconds on full blast. I barely used up 20% of the entire 2 ounce bottle. It makes me feel quite safe to walk around with 2 ounces of that spray. After using the spray I made the fatal mistake of walking near the path where I had shot the stream. Instantly, my eyes and face were burning very, very badly. Luckily, at home I had various Sudecon decontamination wipes (also by Fox Labs) stashed away which I used on my face. It still took 30 minutes for the pain to go entirely away. Without them it would have burned much longer I think. I really don’t want to know what a hit anywhere near the facial region feels like. That’s an instant knockout!Make sure to have your pepper spray very easily reachable. It's like a gun. It's first time to spray. Just like you should practice your first time draw with your weapon you should also practice your pepper spray draw and learn from which pocket you are able to draw it quicker. Which in fact I had been doing beforehand. You cannot be pulling out a pepper spray out of a bag or somehow fumble it. That was why I got away in combination with the confidence with which I acted.Pepper spray is a wonderful self defense tool. It immediately forces your opponent to turn away and thus run away. That would not have happened if I had pulled a knife or a baton. Even if I had pulled out a knife these guys definitely had larger knives. And there were two of them. In fact, I was even carrying a knife on me in my right pants pocket at that time, a particularly large folding pocket knife even, the CRKT M21-14SFG Knife with a blade length of 3.9 inches! A high quality product with double hilt and double security feature. But it would not have occurred to me in a 100 years to draw that knife on them when I had a pepper spray on me. If I had pulled my knife they might have considered getting into combat with me. Most likely they would also have run because what they are looking for are easy victims. But there would have been no guarantee for that. Most robbers here that are on foot or on motorbike roaming the streets on the lookout for victims are usually sniffing the infamous Colombian white powder to fuel their crime sprees. Therefore you never know how crazy the person in front of you might be. So there definitely existed a smaller but still real possibility that they would have engaged with me even if I had pulled my knife. Whereas I literally forced them to immediately turn away and run away. Once the assailant turns away he cannot just keep standing there. The mist would get them even from behind. Plus, they already got some of the spray on them and they definitely don't want anymore of it. This is the power of a high quality pepper spray. That's why I think that knives or batons are clearly inferior as a self defense weapon. Of course one single shot out of a real gun would have had the same effect. But I cannot legally carry a gun here in Colombia as a non Colombian citizen. So if you are going to be carrying both a knife and a pepper spray it is tremendously unlikely that you will ever have to use your knife. Which is great.I actually watched some videos on Youtube to inspect the stream quality of Fox Labs Mean Green, Fox Labs 5.3 and the now retired 5.3 Squared. And the stream of the 1.4 comes out far mistier than all the other versions. Which I like a lot. You have the best of both world. You have a stream that can really reach up to 17 feet but it comes out very misty immediately getting into someone's eyes and airway. Also, let me enlighten you a little further: In case you did not know Fox Labs 1.4 does not only come in at 1.4% MC, meaning Major Capsaicinoids, basically referring to the percentage of pure capsaicin and pure dihydrocapsaicin which are responsible for the hotness in a pepper spray. The 1.4% MC rating is among the highest ratings you will ever find. It is also the maximum permissible limit for police use. But into the bargain Fox Labs One Point Four also contains TCE, which is trichloroethylene. TCE used to be an industrial degreaser that has been declared illegal to use outside of pepper sprays. TCE is considered to be strongly carcinogenic, livertoxic, neurotoxic, it causes birth defects and all other kinds of nasty side effects. But it also has the wonderful effect of immediately opening up human skin pores and stripping the skin's protective fat layer. 96% of Fox Labs One Point Four is TCE!This nearly triples the effect of the sole pepper spray. The main effect of the TCE is that the pepper spray will have a particularly viciously instant effect. TCE also increases the perceived pain by a factor of 2.5 or even up to 3. This is why the Fox Labs 1.4 comes in like hell. You might have heard that pepper spray only works on 90% of people and that some people are basically more or less immune to it. Or that it might not work on very drugged up people. That is certainly true of your garden variety POM, Sabre Red or even Fox Labs Mean Green water based pepper spray. However, TCE containing pepper sprays have immediate stopping power on 100% of people! Thanks to the TCE you are crossing over to the “dark side”.The original Fox Labs 5.3 only had a 0.7% MC rating but it had the TCE. Then between 2016 - 2020 TCE was declared illegal to use in pepper sprays. So Fox Labs put out the Fox Labs 5.3 Squared which came in with 1.4% MC but without the TCE. People like pepper spray instructors and police were saying that the original Fox Labs 5.3 with only 0.7% MC was stronger than the Fox Labs 5.3 Squared which had double the amount of pepper extract but no TCE. Then 4 years ago it was resolved that TCE would be legal to use again in pepper sprays. Fox Labs immediately withdrew the Fox Labs 5.3 Squared without the TCE from the market and introduced the Fox Labs 1.4 that has 1.4% MC and TCE.Fox Labs currently is the only brand in the world that uses TCE in their pepper spray. There used to be another brand (Heatwave) that used TCE in the past but they dropped it since 2016. Apart from that there is only one single brand (DPS Black Label) that uses PCE instead of TCE which is very similar in terms of effects. Those are your only two strongly toxically supercharged pepper spray knockout options that will bring anyone to his knees without exception. Placed #3 in worldwide pepper spray rankings we then have the UDAP Mugger Fogger which comes in with 3.0% MC, the strongest percentage MC spray in the world and indeed the only spray in the world with such a high MC percentage. However, the UDAP Mugger Fogger does not contain any supercharging TCE or PCE and therefore still "only" lands on #3. And then placed #4 you have a whole bunch of waterbased 1.4% sprays like POM spray etc. that you could still consider decent but compared to a Fox Labs One Point Four they are quite weak actually.Fox Labs does not really advertise the TCE solvent, they just say it's oil based but you can find all the info on the company's material safety data sheet which you can google or find on Fox Lab's website. It would be seen as problematic to advertise their pepper sprays with a heavily carcinogenic compound that has been banned for all other use cases. That's why I want to advertise this fact to you. I love the fact that Fox Labs is using TCE in their pepper sprays. This really supercharges the spray into a whole different beast. You will also find videos on youtube where the Fox Labs pepper 1.4 spray melts styrofoam. Look them up. The TCE solvent is responsible for that. No other pepper spray melts styrofoam. I don’t know about you but I definitely want to have the pepper spray that melts styrofoam. Also if you google "Fox Labs Compare Formulas" you will see on Fox Lab's own website that they consider the Fox Labs 5.3 with 0.7% MC to be hotter than the Mean Green Formula which has 1.2% MC. The Mean Green formula has a higher MC percentage but it is water based whereas the the 5.3 formula is oil based containing TCE. And of course the 1.4 formula is the hottest of them all with 1.4% MC and TCE. On that note don't buy Mean Green.Concluding my TCE discourse I will say: TCE in a pepper spray is what will make you join the "Big Boys' Club". If you are serious about self defense and not only dabbling around your pepper spray MUST contain TCE so that you easily have the capacity to mow down even the most drug crazed people and the few tough guys on whom regular pepper spray only has a very weak effect. Plus, if you can (legally allowed) inflict up to three times the amount of pain and suffering on someone who tries to rob or kill you I will take that with a feeling of great delight and a big smile on my face.[ JANUARY 2025 UPDATE:However, the US Environmental Protection Agency has finally decided to drop the hammer on TCE and PCE. According to the "FACT SHEET 2024 Final Risk Management Rule for Trichloroethylene under TSCA" that you can google you will see that by June 16 2025 there will be a prohibition on processing and distribution of TCE in commerce. And then by September 15 there will be a final prohibition on industrial and commercial use. So retailers who previously bought Fox Labs One Point Four from a distributor by June 16 2025 will be allowed to sell their last supply by September 15 2025.Unfortunately the same will also apply to PCE. PCE is perchloroethylene and it's considered nearly as toxic as TCE with the difference that TCE is a known carcinogen, while PCE is only suspected. PCE is like TCE when it comes to its effects of supercharging a pepper spray. DPS Black Label is the brand that uses PCE in their pepper spray. According to the "FACT SHEET 2024 Final Risk Management Rule for Perchloroethylene under TSCA" that you can also google you will see that there will be a prohibition on all distributors by December 8 2026 on PCE and a final prohibition on retailers by March 8 2027. At least for PCE there is a little more time left than for TCE.Bottomline: You want to act fast and I recommend you buy Fox Labs One Point Four by June/July 2025 at latest. Sales will be skyrocketing in the final months of the TCE pepper spray era. Police agencies, government agencies and people in the know will absolutely want to make sure to get their hands on the world's final supply of the strongest pepper spray to have ever existed: The legendarily toxic and legendarily effective Fox Labs One Point Four. So effective they had to make it illegal! After that if you need another truly effective pepper spray I recommend you buy DPS Black Label by December 2026. ]And why am I saying all this? Attitude is first in self defense. If you really want to act with confidence you have to trust that your pepper spray is really, really nasty and will make your opponent turn away IMMEDIATELY. If you doubt that then you might not act with sufficient confidence when the situation will really require it. That's why I did the research for you. This is the one nasty spray that you can fully trust.I will even go as far as to say the following: I have been robbed by two dudes on a motorbike 3 years ago. One of the dudes had a gun, that's how it usually goes here. I did not carry a pepper spray at that time. The robber showed me the gun but then he put it away inside his trouser girdle. If I had had the Fox Labs 1.4 back then and if I had had the confidence in the Fox Labs 1.4 pepper spray that I have now I would have sprayed him right then and there. He would have been forced to immediately turn away and run away. His momentum would have been broken and he would have run.I myself have now even switched to carrying two Fox Labs 1.4 2oz. canisters in the spray version when I am wearing a jumper with two pockets or one large center pocket. That is overkill for sure. But there is enough place in my jumper pockets and two of those sprays would even keep me safe from a very aggressive gang of 12 people or even more. In very extreme situations I could even use both peppersprays at the same time drawing one pepper spray each with both hands. But don't get me wrong. One of those 2 oz. canisters is very plenty as demonstrated by my own experience. If I don't carry a jumper or jacket I only carry one canister in my right pants pocket. Yes, that means that I carry my cellphone in my left pants pocket which is much more unpractical in daily use for a right handed person like myself. You are paying the price of a little bit of discomfort to be able to draw your pepper spray immediately and with full confidence once the situation requires it. That's why I prefer to wear cargo style pants with much larger pockets just so that the 2 ounce can will always fit in easily. But the jumper or jacket draw is even quicker and more inconspicuous if you happen to be wearing one of those. That's my top recommendation for carry. Also, I would never draw my pepper spray on an attacker armed with a gun that has the drop on me, meaning he has his gun and his attention on me. You would not draw a gun in this case either. You would feign compliance and wait your turn. But let's say we have an assailant with a gun in his hand, he is within 17 feet of me and I can see him from the side: Yes, I would fire both my Fox Lab 1.4 sprays at the same time at him. He would be forced to turn around and retreat immediately. He would even be hard pressed to get a single effective shot off with those immediately incapacitating and wonderfully toxic fumes coming his way. He better get packing real quick. Your risk tolerance and confidence in your pepper spray might vary. But that's just my way of saying that I have full confidence in Fox Labs One Point Four.In Conclusion: I want to say that this stream can come out nearly like a fogger when you keep the button continuously pressed. You will get a concentrated stream of very fine mist with lots of tiny droplets. It will easily have up 7 feet more reach compared to the cone version. In my situation the cone version would not have had sufficient reach when the situation first unfolded. Of course stream vs cone spray has been a permanent ongoing debate. The truth is that depending on the type of situation you find yourself in either a stream or a cone fogger might be more ideally suited. However, in my humble estimation the stream version will be more useful in around 62,5% of all possible self defense scenarios and the cone version only in around 37,5% of them. For a fogger in windy situations you really have big problems and you could even get a large portion of the content on yourself. You don't want to worry about that in a high stress situation. A stream is overall much better. The only advantage I could see in a cone fogger is if you had multiple assailants that were very close to you like within 3-4 feet of distance. Or maybe you are a woman with particularly large fingernails and exceptionally bad aim. Yeah, then get the cone fogger. However for the vast majority of people the wind resistance and the further reach are the overall winning arguments in favor of the stream version. The reach is quite crucial. Once you begin fearing for your life you really want to have the attacker as far away from you as possible. Enough said, Fox Labs 1.4 in the stream version saved me from two knife wielding attackers. I am buying more. And I recommend you do, too!

This stuff WORKS. Do not test it!
I have had to use this spray twice already doing deliveries, once in a road rage incident and once on a drunk belligerent man. Both times the altercation was over in an INSTANT. Once this spray comes anywhere close to their face, they are immediately incapacitated. I highly recommend this spray for a non lethal self defense in situations where you can not safely escape without risking your own safety. The stream is constant/steady, goes well over the 12 feet they say that it does, and easy to aim. I've tested it a couple times, and used it twice now and I still have probably half the can or a little less.Be careful though, if you even get it on any clothes or anything you will be feeling it later. I had gotten a tiny bit on my jacket which somehow got onto my lips and made for a bad time for a half an hour or so. I can only imagine how it feels to be sprayed with this and I hope I never have the pleasure of knowing.

This stuff works. Stopped a dog attack with it.
Last week my neighbor's two Pit mixes got out. They're not friendly towards random people or other dogs. They started to attack a guy that was out walking his dog in front of my house (his dog was fine, guy got one minor bite). I ran out to help the guy and ended up spraying one of two dogs with this stuff. It took a total of three sprays as the dog kept coming back since I didn't get direct hits until the 3rd spray. I was trying to avoid spraying the guy and his dog that were being attacked. This stuff works. I originally bought it to keep on myself when taking my Pitbull for walks as a lot of people walk their dogs off leash where I live.

Awesome
I like the fox oc spray so much better but wish it was same size as my Sabre red crossfire other than that no other complaint. It just don't fit my duty belt pouch cause its smaller.

A little large for your pocket…
Fortunately, I have not had to use this, so i can’t comment on how easy it is to grab and use. However, this is a bit large for putting in pockets. If you have a purse, bag or larger coat, it will fit in those. I use this when going for walks and it’s getting dark out. I put in an oversized pocket. It hasn’t leaked and easy to carry in the coat.
